Apparently their are talks between Top Rank and Buffalo promotions (run by Myung Yuh Woo) to have 4 Korean's on the Top Rank card in Singapore in October.

From what I've read the the most interesting of men included in the talks are Min Wook Kim (#6 ranked WBC Light Welterweight) and Ja Ik Goo.

I've seen a few clips of both and really enjoyed what I've seen of Goo (also a Light Welterweight)

Ja Ik Goo has the style to become a star in the US if matched well. He's not the typical "take one to land one" Korean that we all remmeber but he's scintalating, explosive and very exciting. It didn't show when he took on Min Taek Kim but that was a huge step up and I have a feeling he was happy to get rounds under his belt.

This is interesting that Boxing is growing in Japan and Korea. I wonder if they can get Singapore next.

It's not really been "small" in Japan in a very long time.

Actually Boxing is immensely popular in India. Mary Kom, female Olympic boxer from India is a national icon there.

True, nor in (S.) Korea really.

Boxing has been healthy there for a long time, although less than in Japan.

In particular their amateur program has looked strong on the international scene, but there have been a couple of standout pros in every generation. (with Ji Hoon Kim prominent today, Jung-koo Chang & Duk Koo Kim back in the 80's, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few in the intervening decades)

In fairness SK is having a serious down period. At the moment they only have 2 fighters who are "World ranked" (Min Wook Kim and Ji Hoon Kim), they have no world or Oriental (OPBF) champions and on the OPBF scene they are limited in terms of challengers and personally I can't see Jaesung Lee over-coming Shingo Wake when they meet on July 21st.
The glories days of the 70's, 80's and even 90's are long gone. The last "generation" of good Thai's were Injin Chi, Yo Sam Choi, Jung Bum Kim and they've not really had anyone follow them.

In terms of amateurs they aren't what they were in the 1980's sadly

    Ah, I forgot Chi! :patsch

Anyway, in terms of amateurs they are in decent shape.

Shin Jong-Hun is pretty good (he was robbed against Zou Shiming at the 2011 AIBA world championship finals)

Soon Chul Han did okay at the Olympics.

Nobody elite I guess, but they do have some talent.
