Pity he didnt get to lay claim to a championship belt, just his luck that he had to mix it with a raft of great champions... and that Rossman was pre-title
but he should be remembered as a great contender in a Lt Heavyweight Golden Age.

Lopez was one hell of a fighter...one of the very best never to have won a world championship. Recently I saw the Lopez-Conteh fight. I was amazed at how competitve Lopez was.

Super-educated left hand. He could do so much with it, and as gritty as they come.

I'll add that he put his punches together -- and set them up -- in extremely sophisticated ways. I've been watching boxing for decades, yet I've found that I cannot always follow the sequencing of Lopez's combinations. He was incredible.

Did you see the Conteh fight, by any chance?

Most of the rounds were extremely close, though. Conteh was hard pressed for much of the fight.

I think the Conteh fight is more a sign of how good an on Form Conteh could be...Here he was coming back from a layoff and right hand Problems,

You are correct about Conteh's high ability level. I was amazed at how close a fight Lopez gave him, though. Only recently did I get a chance to view that film. Previously I was under the false impression that Conteh had won easily.

he's very old school in his training methods.
