Pity he didnt get to lay claim to a championship belt, just his luck that he had to mix it with a raft of great champions... and that Rossman was pre-title but he should be remembered as a great contender in a Lt Heavyweight Golden Age.
Lopez was one hell of a fighter...one of the very best never to have won a world championship. Recently I saw the Lopez-Conteh fight. I was amazed at how competitve Lopez was.
I'll add that he put his punches together -- and set them up -- in extremely sophisticated ways. I've been watching boxing for decades, yet I've found that I cannot always follow the sequencing of Lopez's combinations. He was incredible. Did you see the Conteh fight, by any chance?
I think the Conteh fight is more a sign of how good an on Form Conteh could be...Here he was coming back from a layoff and right hand Problems,
You are correct about Conteh's high ability level. I was amazed at how close a fight Lopez gave him, though. Only recently did I get a chance to view that film. Previously I was under the false impression that Conteh had won easily.
he's in the movie "Callejero" (2014) [yt]dqoKk6paH9s[/yt] he's very old school in his training methods.
