Ricky's 2 biggest weaknesses are power and not handling pressure, two of Scotts strengths. You see when on ropes Burns crumbles, he would have ring cut of with Scott's excellent footwork and be destroyed.
Moog Ricky handled MK pressure no bother and let me assure you he punches much harder than Scott. Scott wasn't a big puncher at featherweight but what he did have was size and strength plus excellent knowledge of a boxing ring, he taught me personally so much. However speed and movement have always been Scott's downfall and in Ricky he wouldn't have the answers And if going by whats in the papers today Rickys steping up in weight
Eddie Hearn said Ricky will only fight in Scotland next if its against Scott. Boxing News seem to think Scott could finish Ricky with his style and hooks. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/06/hearn-likes-ricky-burns-scott-harrison-fight/
Scott has great movement. Ricky doesn't punch anywhere near as hard Billy, that's an unbelievable comment. When Scott was a FW did he no weight close to 10st 7ib on fight night? He is a quite a big lightweight, and has good power (Ricky don't). As you seen the other night Ricky couldn't cope with hooks, was so open to them it was untrue. That and clever pressure are Scotts strengths, so if that guy can hit him with those shots Scott would all day, as he is better than that guy (Who sent his punches with telegraphs all the way from Montegrego- Ricky was so slow he couldn't get out the way)
Personally think Ricky has declined unbelievably in the last year and a half. Was throwing single jabs all night against Zlatican. If Scott had a tune up id fancy Harrison to beat this version of Ricky. Like both fighters and would prefer they didn't fight mind you.
What I'd really love to see is Harrison versus his buddy and spar mate Willie Limond, one last classic tear-up for both their careers - but that'll not be happening.
Sat beside scott at fridays fight and he said it would take 8-10 months to get to where he wanted to be and then burns can have it no bother , couple a camps with a tune up is what he said to me and based on what he saw against zlaticanin he fancys it even more so , Any talk of ricky moving up to LWW needs to stop imo he needs to concentrate on doing LW better than of late , maybe needs to do it via nutrition as his fitness certainly isnt an issue and never has been, Not a big puncher at LW so would be even more a disadvantage at LWW
Moog to be perfectly honest we know Scott was a great fighter at featherweight but it was as clear as the day he in the Walsh fight he doesn't carry that strength up at LW not does he possess sufficient speed anymore. I'm glad Scott can fight again although I'd rather see him not fight again
Id tend to agree billy as id imagine the years away have taken there toll , still a great in his heyday though
well moog the vast majority would disagree with you mat but I admire your support for a great Scottish fighter
Most people I have heard think that Scott would win now after seeing Ricky go backwards a lot the other night v a limited opponent who lacked skills, and speed. Boxing News think Scott would retire Ricky.
Scott Harrison was a great fighter back in his day, it is 9 years since he was at his best, Ricky Burns would hammer him in about 7 rounds, especially if he went back to Billy,,, Scott has got more chance of being Audley harrison's twin brother
