Tyson vs Bowe (96/97ish)

I go with dq win, Bowe.

I don't see any way shape or form Tyson accepts the low blows/hitting after the bell/hitting on breaks/rabbit punches from Riddick.

He'll react and look to get instant payback. This could have easily erupted--like some other Bowe fights--into a real nasty between rounds fight.

I think Bowe starts it and Tyson retaliates and is the guy dq'd. He'd be better off initiating. But I see a Holyfield #2 or worse, scenario.

yeah he did untold damage to his legacy post prison. you could see his whole mentality was completely different as a fighter, Steve Lott made some great points about this. I think people were saying the stand up to the bully thing after the Douglas loss though, which I personally felt was unfair. of course this was only made worse by the bite. as with all things Tyson, he does himself no favours...

 

Golota was put down by Tyson's best shot and rose immediately and not badly hurt. Tyson was already tiring and getting caught himself.

Tyson at that time was equally as weak and was only going to dishearten when he couldn't finish him.

 

But Tyson was a championship caliber fighter, Golota was a never was. He's leagues below Tyson when it comes to pedigree. You're trying to prove something that Golota has NEVER done!

 

This is an excellent point. I can see the same thing happening, and it's quite surprising really looking back, at just how many controversies Bowe was involved in, such as the Tillery fiasco and the Donald dust-up. I know there were a few others too. I thought he was lucky to avoid a DQ against Mathis.
Tyson of course, needs no introduction if we're talking controversies.

This would also be a fight about pride as much as anything, seeing as though both came from Brownsville. It could have been one wild, dirty fight for sure with a DQ of one or both being a strong possibility.

I need to refresh myself as to how bad Bowe was at this stage. I remember watching him struggle against Golota but I have no clear recollection of his level of deterioration right now.

I agree with what has been said about Tyson being overrated post-prison. He flattered to deceive for sure, although I am still very impressed with his utter destruction of Bruno and he fought very well for five rounds or so against Holyfield, so he could still be lethal for the first four rounds or so.
I also thought he looked devastating against the admittedly limited Savaresse, but he looked extremely sharp in that one.

No doubt about it though, his effectiveness dropped off massively once he was stretched for a few rounds, back when he was still active in the late '90's.
To make a somewhat cliched prediction, Tyson early or Bowe later.
