In the past even the biggest American superstars travelled, Muhammad Ali boxed a good bit in Europe and all over the world , sugar Ray Robinson toured Europe twice , even though they were the biggest names in boxing and knew amercia was the Mecca of boxing at the time they still travelled and this Definetly helped to make them global icons and increase Boxings overall popularity

These days the top American fighters don't seem to want to do that, the p4p number 1 and 2 have never taught outside America (unless you count the two small fights ward had on Islands near america) and they seem to have no ambition to fight in different countries

Fair enough mayweather makes a ton of money fighting in the MGM grand but watching his fights it seems like a high class celebrity event and seems quiet removed and alien from the lives of the majority of youngsters who box around the world. I feel one of the reasons Ali was and remain so popular was that he travelled so much and inspired and touched so many people and that why he was the most well known and popular athlete in the world and boxing was considered in it's golden age during that time. On the opposite end of the spectrum floyd is the highest paid athlete in the world but his not close to Lebron James or Leo messi in terms of popularity or influence

All the big and serious fights/events take place in America. Even foreign fighters aim to make it far enough to headline in America.

A fight against khan for mayweather or PAC would be a bigger event in the uk than in America . Fighting in front if a 60-80 thousand crowd would be an amazing experience for any fighter .

That's always been the case with foreign fighters looking to make it big in America only difference now is that the top fighters now days never fight outside America , in the past lots of big fights took place outside America involving American fighters.

    Yes.

The fact Ward won't go to the UK, school Froch and make a killing is beyond me.

This isn't a a floyd thread it's more to do with the state of boxing

I suggest you start following boxing instead of having you world revolve around floyd and pac maybe then you can gain an understanding for the sport and be able to give an intelligent perspective in this matter instead of just looking like an idiot

Taxes. Some counties tax you even if you work in a different country.
And i am pretty sure it applies to American athletes. That´s why i never bought Mayweather´s talk of fighting in the UK.

Ok, wards an extreme example of this though , with flood he doesn't have I travel to make more money, with ward it would be extremely benifical to travel yet he refuses too

I would like to see Ward-Froch or Khan-Mayweather in a full Wembley stadium.

Froch vs Groves was one of the best boxing atmospheres I've ever seen. Also the German stadiums which Klitschko sells out. An outside event has more of a sports feeling to me.
