Valdes would rank very low indeed on Marcianos list of best opponents.. immediately after his retirement anyway. Number 7 is fair considering Nino's 1954 form before he beat Cokkell.
This is where I would place valdes amongst Rockys best wins:

    Walcott,
    Moore,
    Charles,
    Louis,
    Layne
    Lastarza
    VALDEZ,
    Cokkell,
    Savold,
    Mathews,
    Reynolds.

However later on when bigger heavyweights became more fashionable historians might look back and think Valdez was a better win than first considered. The extra Euro wins in the late 1950s could enhance the Cubans standing despite as many losses to decent prospects.

Do you think Nino Valdes style matched up well with Marciano's strengths?

To everyone involved in this thread, this question is directed toward you

Who was the better fighter a 1951 Joe Louis or 1954 Nino Valdes? And why?

I may be over simplifying things a bit... But Valdez was able to beat Ezzard Charles. Louis wasn't.

Rex Layne was able to beat Charles too and so did Walcott and over a series of fights they had with ezz neither could prove they were better than Charles.

We have film of the entire Charles v Harold Johnson fight and there was nothing between them.

Nino's win over Charles was a career highlight. But Charles had his moments in that fight, almost knocking Nino out on several occasions. By the reports it was more a case of an unprepared Charles being taken by surprise from an opponent he did not expect much from more than anything else. Charles started too fast and tired himself out against a game fighter he was in no condition to finish off.

That loss was a minor hiccup for Charles. There is a reason Nino refused to rematch him. Up until then Nobody but Walcott had ever beat Charles in rematches and even Jersey Joe lost twice to Ezzard initially.

So yes Joe Louis could not beat Charles but then Ezzard knew exactly what he was getting in Louis. Joe Louis was not a fight on the road he took against an unknown loser. Charles knew nothing about Nino, Charles even had other fights booked in advance of taking that one. I credit Nino for taking his chance under those circumstances but it's not quite what it seems.

Who knows? Put 1951 Louis in against the busy unsuspecting Ezzard Charles that Nino fought and it could have been better for 51 Louis.

    I didn't know that.:good

Even more reason for Ezzard to take Joe Louis more seriously than Nino Valdez.

It's kind of sad that I've so gotten into your head just by contradicting your arguments .. FYI, most of the time I completely forget you even exist as I find you to be close minded, childish and highly emotional and just happen to respond when I stumble upon you and chuckle ... give it up already or don't , it's irrelevant to me .... :hey

    HEGrant,

We are still waiting on you to answer this question

Had Marciano fought and beaten Valdes, where would Valdes rank on Marcianos list of best opponents in your opinion?

HeGrant, I've known you for years, dating back to my days at cyber boxing. You're one of the least knowledgable, and least respected posters I have ever met. I'm not alone in sharing that opinion. You are the guy who forms opinions without doing any real research, it's the epitome of laziness. You are also extremely close minded. I don't think you've ever admitted you were wrong about something. On a personal level, you're personality comes across as very pompous, and arrogant. I bet while growing up, mommy and daddy gave you everything huh?

This thread you made is of no surprise to me. I called your true agenda out in my first post in this thread. I'm just glad Edward M was able to expose you. So carry on.

He's a cancerous old man, who quotes books. How's that supposed to impress anyone? Oh wait, he once claimed a 139 IQ, which would make him a near genius.:patsch

For the record I do have a 4 year college degree from a school that accepts less than 40% of its applicants, and requires a good grade point average, and SAT / ACT score.

I gave my IQ in answer to a direct question it was 137 BTW,not 139, nothing to shout about.
Mensa is 148,and upwards that is considered near genius.150 and over is accepted as such
I don't place much stock in IQ's myself. My partner has a higher IQ than I ,and has a better education being educated privately.

I was drinking Sunday at the jazz with two teachers, one has a 1st class honours in Sociology the other is a member of Mensa, both their IQ's are in the high 140's,the average is 100.

I've said a couple of times I consider myself of average intellligence.
Unless compared to Mendoza whom I consider a cretin.
I've 4 dogs ,if any of them were as thick as him ,they would not find kennel space with me.
I quote boxing books when I want a source to blow you out of the water. That's what their for.
You misquote books you haven't read in a desperate attempt to add some credibilty to your deliberate lies .
You cannot read competently , you cannot spell even adequately, and you cannot frame a sentence with any degree of comprehension.
You once referrred to Sam Langford as" Sang Froid".That is absolutely fantastical

Whatever Rainman college gave you a degree must be extremely unambitious in its expectations and standards.

When you say degree do you mean a Batchelor- hood or a Masters? Or just a piece of paper for turning up for 4 years?

Rainman , you are bordeline ******ed.

I would add that I am not a big fan of using the records, to deduce who a champion was likely ducking.

When the truth comes out regarding who a champion was most concerned by, it is often the last person you would expect.
