Rodney was bigger, fatter and appeared to be less trained. He was not a puncher but had a solid chin less shaky than Duane. He was slow but strong

JD, could you upload that fight please? Ive never seen it and all ive seen of Shaw is the same 2/3 fights. Not that im a fan of Shaws or any of those guys, id just like to see it outta curiousity

 

Stander was a victim of the then up and coming Don King fighter named Jeff Merritt in a 1973 fight. Unfortunately, Merritt soon after was swallowed up by a terrible addiction to heroin.

 

I was stunned when I saw the shape Stander was in when he fought Merritt. I knew nothing of Merritt at the time - didn't know about that left hook - but Ron didn't do himself any favors when he came in looking like a beached whale.

 

Yes, Rodney took an appalling beating from Larry Holmes in 1974. I think it is on YouTube.

 

How bad was Stander after he lost the fire following Frazier? Well Scott LeDeoux almost looked like Willy Pep against him.

Yep, I've come to usually just passing his stuff by now as its to big a pain figuring it out, just not worth it.
