Why does a champion who hasn't lost yet and has been fighting regularly need a tune up?

You really think a CHAMPION ever deserves to pick and choose his opposition?

I don't care what the tradition is. I am talking about an ideal. If boxing is to be taken seriously a CHAMPION should be fighting the best possible CHALLENGER.

If he cannot handle the pressure of being a champion and fighting the best opposition then he should vacate the belt and let someone else defend it as it should be defended.

Not always possible to fight the best......especially when you have to go from 1-13 before one actually accepts the fight.

But in this case, Im sure any # of rated fighters would have jumped at the opportunity and the payday.

Mathysee would likely take the rematch for 20%:good

Because he had a bad night last time around. :patsch

    It's a confidence booster.

That said, Rod is still a very good fighter.

People who just bash Rod haven't seen him fight.

I think this is going to be a very very competitive fight.

Which great champ in the past hasn't had a tune up? Come on now.

Drug cheats is nothing new imho, but the titles is a huge issue and really the only issue.

If there were only one title per division, champions could not defend not fighting the top contenders. Instead, with 4+ titles per division, it's challenging to keep up with who the top guys actually are...and I consider myself a regular boxing fan. I can't imagine how confused casual fans are.

One division - one title - one champion. The simplicity is a formula for success, guaranteed

Garcia is on his way out.

Get him a highlight KO against this kid then cash him out to PBF.

    Thats the plan.

We're not all that stupid Al.

If a champion goes through 3 straight tough fights, one easy stay-active fight is only reasonable in between. Being a champion doesn't transcend a fighter from being human to an immortal machine overnight. Do you think all the greats defended their titles against top tier challenges indefinitely?. Face it, all of them had easy fights in between and for logical reasons.

True, it's not always possible due to logistics. However there are rules in place to prevent the champions from fighting tomato cans, much like the embarrassing and disgraceful match when Jones picked on that policeman.

In this case this guy does not meet any of the required rules for challenging the champion. And for good reason.

Thank you Al Haymon, for always trying your best to make the best fights possible. We love you and look forward to more outstanding PPV events courtesy of Campbell's Tomato Soup.

How many cabdrivers, part-time teachers, babysitters and kindergarten dropouts did Chavez Sr. fight?. He's the primal example of what I'm trying to explain, only he's far too extreme.

you have something against the rules? the guy isnt RANKED....its a sham. if the guy wants an easy fight. let it be a non title fight. sanctioning this makes a mockery of the "world title" fight. :-(
