Tarver bulked up to 220lbs for the Rocky 6 film and lost over 50lbs the majority of it muscle but i'm sure it didn't have any affect.
Very true. Remember there was talk of Hopkins fighting Adamek when he was cruiserweight champ only for it to fall silent when Adamek seemed interested. Now I'm not saying Hopkins was scared but he is smart and he realised that Adamek has skills, punches good and has great stamina. He was not you 'typical' brawler. Kovalev is all wrong for Hopkins.
Hopkins moving up 2 weight classes ton fight tarver deserves respect He was big underdog vs Tito Beating guys at his age is exceptional
Tarver, Calzaghe, Pascal x2, Dawson x 2, Cloud, ancient Jones and Shuemenov at his age is a solid fight resume.
I think if there was any doubt/fear in Hopkins mind about these fights it would purely be down to his age and the wisdom that has come with it. A younger Hopkins has the perfect style to win both these fights by UD, rendering the power punches best attributes useless, obviously I'm unsure if he can pull it off now but both Kovalev and Stevenson can be outboxed and we should remember to stop doubting Hopkins as he keeps proving everyone wrong.
Who has shown that they could outbox Kovalev? Are you forgetting that Kovalev, and Adonis have world class skills to go with their power punches. Is every puncher to you a one dimensional slugger?
Mate, I know what you're saying but it's too easy to put all Hopkins victories down to the failings of the other guy . . . you don't get lucky that many times in a career . . . the fact is he's a fantastic smart fighter who has defied the experts time and time again. Having said that, he is an intelligent guy who knows what styles suit him. He knew, for example, that Pascal and Pavlik were made for him while Chad Dawson was all wrong for him and tried every trick in the book to not get engaged in a fair fight with Dawson. Whether Kovalev will be too much for him at this point is debateable, but even is Kovalev were to knock him out it wouldn't take away from his all time great standing imo
Boxing fans are a real piece of work. A proven legend, who has fought every one that mattered, gets pushed to the side by these "fans" and labeled "scared" for some new guy with some power and a little baby resume compared to Hopkins. Boxing fans are always quick to throw proven fighters under the bus once a big power puncher comes into the picture. I remember the fan favorite Sergio Martinez was, until unproven, untested power puncher Gennady Golovkin started calling him out, all of a sudden Martinez was thrown to the side and Golovkin hailed as the new king of MW...but check this...without beating anyone for the crown.
"Muh Resume!" "Ya'll just in luv wit duh power!" Resumes don't get in the ring. Fighters get in the ring.
he's never ducked anyone, he even fought Dawson, knowing perfectly well he'd lose because Dawson was a bad stylistic matchup for him
