    German promoter Rainer Gottwald has posted the following on his Facebook page:

    “For Alexander Petkovic a dream come true! On July 6 in Grozny, Russia he’s boxing against Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA heavyweight championship. This is a surprise, you never would have thought. We have our fingers crossed for Alexander. Chagaev will have to go through hell to win. Yesterday we confirmed that Oquendo is not boxing and Alex gets the chance. So, keep your fingers crossed.”

    Why can't Wilder be fighting guys every week like 40+ year old Briggs. The level of opposition is the same but Wilder is only out twice a year.

    Fs Wilder should be out every month. If you only fight bums , then fight them often.

    I like Wilder but I don't think ive seen more than 10 mins of the guy in the ring. Daddy Briggs puts him to shame.

    yes, fingers crossed that the #71 heavyweight according to boxrec gets rated by the WBA so he can fight for a title.
    just cancel the event instead of making more of a joke about this crap belt than it already is :-(

    Chagaev/Petkovic vs. Oquendo/Briggs - tag team style...

    At least the build-up to the fight has created some drama that will be sadly lacking in the ring. I'm picking fast Fres to 'win' but lose on points in a Russian robbery and complain bitterly about it afterwards.

    Briggs can rest assured that he WILL be getting a shot at this title.

    He's a high profile name like Rahman was, and like Rahman, the WBA will keep him rated with activity alone, even if his best opponent is someone like Petkovic.

    And Chaggy might try to milk this title for a while before giving it to Haye or vacating by cashing out vs Wlad.

    BUT.....it's a positive thing actually, as we will likely finally see Adamek, Haye, Briggs, or Fury or even Chambers vs Chagaev.

    Couple those wins with Oquendo and couple fringe guys like Kaufman or Rodriguez and Chaggy or whoever is then holding the WBA will be a nice viable challenger for Wlad...maybe heir to his throne:think

    I hope they keep the opponent a secret until the last moment, have him walk to the ring in a balaclava & a robe covered in question marks.
