This. MMA fans love to talk about the 'skill' level involved with the sport. They (and sometimes naïve boxing fans do too) vastly underestimate the 'skill' involved in boxing. The 'strike zone' in boxing is FAR smaller: waist up, front and side of head and torso. Period. With padded gloves. Without the ability to grab, elbow, knee, or kick. Bigger ring. IMO, breaking a man's will under those circumstances is far more difficult.
Though I agree somewhat that it's mostly popular with white trash your comment is very uneducated and if you think their grappling involves no skill than your are severely misinformed !
MMA fighters very rarely fight on the inside(standup) and when they do get close, they take it to the ground. Its ok but i think BOXING is leagues better.
I don't HATE it, it's just not my cup of tea. Mostly because of the ground stuff, I like stand up fighting. And their punches look like ****. If my friends invite me over to watch the UFC I will go watch, but I do not seek it out on my own.
personally, i used to love mma, before the ufc tried to monopolize the sport...ufc used to be good but now they are becomming too much like wwe wit their way of presenting and also the hype and way they promote their fights, and their fight cards are lame compared to what they used to be...they used to have fight cards that were packed full of good fights...not its like they play matchmaker to promote a specific fighter(gsp for example..) and match them up against guys with hype or that they think will be a close fight but their sure or almost sure to win based on styles.... i guess having the league and promotrs being the same ppl ruins the competition...imagine al haymon was running the wbc and his own promotion company that had excusive rights for the wbc....wouldnt be much competition... ufc has become too much like wwe but "real" instead of "fake"...i much preffered when it was back in the era of 90'-early 2000's....when they had more competition(pride, strike force...ect) now its just not that interesting to me
I don't hate MMA but I don't like it as much as boxing, boxing is more artful (for the lack of better word). I'm not a big fan of UFC though, especially the fans who most just seem like a bunch of idiots and who constantly have the need to bash boxing or claim how superior MMA is to it, or that it's dying and MMA is taking over. Some people even register on this forum to do it, pretty lame stuff. I used to love watching PRIDE and K1 though (I know it's not MMA).
It's really the other way around. Most boxing fans don't mind appreciating both sports.. but mma fans generally push for the "who would win in a fight" argument... and then they say stupid **** like "Silva could beat Roy Jones in a boxing match"... It's just annoying really.. and then Dana White makes a fight between Randy Couture and Toney and bills it as boxing vs. mma... when it wasn't.. it was an mma match that featured an old-fat-there to get a check Toney... and the ufc simpletons went wild.. but ask yourself.. why isn't that freakshow fight flying the other way around? Why aren't top mma fighters competing at the top of the boxing game? Why is Dana White himself putting a stop to proposed bouts between his stars and world class boxers at their game? .
Dana knows his guys who get their asses handed to them in a boxing match .. Respect thought to the Diaz brothers as I hear they spar with Ward ..I'm sure they would try boxing not saying they would be successful but I'm sure the can appreciate the sweet science .
i dont hate mma but i like boxing so much better. and i dont even follow mma like i used to but i still some what follow it. the boxing vs mma topic is great i stand neutral on it i have respect for both. mma is definitely slippin tho imo
