i honestly think as a promoter oscar is lying through his teeth, they probably see something in lara that lets them know they can easily beat him, that or they are paying lara off to take a dive. it's all about marketability, they got the chance for a huge payday against mayweather and they took it. now they are building canelo back up for many more paydays. i'm not saying that canelo is not a very good fighter on his own merits, he definitely is, what i'm saying is that these promoters know what they're doing, they are there to carefully pick and choose opponents and ensure a lot of future paydays for their potential cash cows. i admired oscar as a fighter but as a promoter he is like all other promoters - a snake.

Your first paragraph is so off based only someone "simple minded" would believe it. Tough opposition can be defined in multiple ways. Is Angulo tough opposition? Trout? Mayweather? Rank them in the quality of opponent and then rank them in what amount of damage they can cause because of the type of fight.

What about Sergio? Are you saying he fought a murderous row of opponents? Or maybe he broke down because he happens to be well passed the prime of an elite boxers career.

I am not disagreeing with you that fighters get soft touches, its always been there, but ODLH will still want you to pay PPV for it and you might just be the fool paying for it.

More or less, I was just hi-lighting a good job vs. a bad job of promoting. Basically I was saying if a high risk fight is properly promoted, the fighter doesn't have to win to "gain."

My post wasn't fully referred to Alvarez, it was in general. I surely didn't expect you to understand that without me having to clarify.

Martinez made it clear that he couldn't go through a tough training camp anymore without risking injury. Everyone knew that which is why he was inactive for over a year before going in against Cotto, he simply couldn't go through a tough training camp without guaranteeing serious money for his effort and risk.

As far as Alvarez is concerned, all of his last three opponents were tough fighters and many people picked against him going in these fights. Sure, Angulo turned out to be an easy target but almost no one expected Alvarez to dominate him the way he did which is why the PPV sold well. Even his next opponent is a tough one which makes it four in a row.

Easy fights are rarely on PPV, especially when the public know that the fight is supposed to be a tune-up. Is the upcoming Danny Garcia fight going to be on PPV?

My first post wasn't regarding Alvarez or what you thought of him, it was based on promotions in general and why easy fights are necessary from time to time. You responded back with Alvarez comments. Here's my thoughts on Alvarez as I already posted.

Oh and yes, I do believe that Alvarez-Lara is definitely worth the PPV. This is a first class fight and definitely one I wouldn't want to miss.

That might be another thing too. I'm also skeptical that he can still make 154 pounds. I thought the Angulo fight would've been a one-time thing but doing it twice makes me think so too. I'm sure though any of the opponents mentioned would not mind fighting Canelo at 155 pounds.

A loss will almost always hurt a fighter. That's the difficult part of being a promoter, taking calculated risks.

Yeah, he can't make 154 anymore which is why he paid the big amount for Angulo to move up one pound and requested the Lara fight to be at 155-156. Oh I'm sure they won't mind either considering the amount of money he brings, and moving up one pound is not as effective as moving down.

That's why people say Mayweather is ducking, because he has the promoter's mentality.

I think that once a fighter has made the progression from fighting bums, to national level, to world ranked contenders and then made the step up to elite competition, then every fight should be against the best opponent available. It goes without saying surely. Ricky Hatton's picks were a great example. Also, he couldn't beat the top guys so he retired. That's what boxing is about. Are you the best? Yes? Prove it. No? Hang em up. This 'career management' business is BS.

But won't be healthy doing so.

True, but it won't be any different than what he's been doing. He's probably just a bit more comfortable at 155. Less weight training and more fight training.

Less weight training and more fight training is the ideal camp for any fighter heading towards a serious fight. That's why he's moving up, to be healthy both physically and mentally.
