It is pretty simple Hopkins was the man then was beat by Taylor who was beat by Pavlik who was beat by Martinez and now Cotto is the Man at the weight.

 

If boxing only had one champ per division Martinez would have been forced to actually fight ggg sooner instead of avoiding him and cotto would have never became the champ

Agree with Barker and Cotto though, can understand Cotto as it was a big money fight.

Cotto is the Lineal champ, Geale will be the first belt holder at 160 lbs that GGG has fought.

 

Does that matter? How is he supposed to right belt holders if none of them are willing to fight him. Strum ran like the wind from him , Sergio put of the fight for as long as he could and it's not going to happen now, quillen isn't looking for a fight with ggg at all, his the lineal champion but it means very little and about as much if not less than the other belts as his not he number one in the division

 

I Do think if Martinez knees weren't bad he would have fought GGG, I mean the Murray fight was only supposed to be a tune up after coming back from injuries sustained in the Chavez fight, and Cotto was just to big off a money fight to turn down.

Sadly he was never the seem after the Chavez fight , GGG has Geale and Soliman willing to fight him and is starting become a bigger name and more fighters are beginning to be willing to fight him.

Lineal doesn't mean best just that you are the guy who beat the previous champ at the weight etc.
