On the back of the Norton thread. Give your verdicts on Ali's debatable decisions. I believe they were.. JONES FRAZIER 2 (some say) NORTON 2 and 3 of course. SHAVERS YOUNG plus any i have missed... Is there a case to answer or were the decisions fair ?
Jones - Ali by 1-2 points. Frazier - Ali clearly, 8-4. Norton 2 - 6-6 (draw) Norton 3 - haven't seen yet Shavers - watched recently, scored it 8-7 to Ali Young - 7-8 + KD (Young recieved standing count) so it's draw
In my opinion there are only TWO decisions that are somewhat controversial in Ali's career - Jimmy Young 1976 Ken Norton III 1976 The others mentioned are close but definite victories for Muhammad in my book. I've no arguement with those who score the second Norton fight for Ken,though,as it was a very close one.
Jones-Ali edges it Ali beat Frazier 2x IMO I think Ali-Norton 2& 3 were very close but Ali was the star Shavers- I had ringside-Ali won Young- I thought Young won in a sweet pea fashion
Ali beat Jones Ali-Frazier 2 should have been a draw but really Ali should have been DQd or at least warned in which case if he stopped his holding Frazier would have had more success and won. Ali won Norton 2 Ali won Shavers Young beat Ali
Ali vs Norton 3 was a clear robbery. I had Norton winning 10-5. The audience, announcers and even Ali himself couldn't believe it. Here are the compubox numbers for Ali vs Norton 3--->http://www.b0xingscene.com/forums/view.php?pg=muhammad-ali-ken-norton-compubox replace the 0 with an o Ali vs Young was also a clear robbery. Young's boxing style made Ali look silly. Had Young winning 9-6 Ali vs Shavers was a robbery as well, Shavers gave Ali a beating. I had Shavers winning 9-6.
Ali Norton 3 is not debatable...Norton won! Just watch the fight or read the compubox numbers I have provided. It's clear as day norton won. Shavers beat Ali up. Shavers won that fight hands down. Young's style made Ali look silly in a strange peekabo stance where he rarely threw any punches, Young clearly won that fight. I'm not an Ali hater but he clearly got some gift decision because of his name and reputation & not because of what he did in the ring
Ali beat Doug Jones HUGE Ali - Frazier 2 8-4 ALI Ali - Norton 2 Maybe Ali but too close for comfort' Ali . Norton 3 Norton 8-6-1 Ali - Shavers Ali Ali - Young Dreadfull fight. Have to give it to Ali, Young was not trying.
Ali over Jones, 2 pts. But close contested rounds and a good fight. Frazier #2 Draw. Muhammad should have lost points for holding or had warnings so it could have made for a better fight. Big anticipation for the fight & it came off like Jones-Tarver 3. Points deducted and Ali loses. Norton 2. This one I'm not sure about. Sometimes I think it's Kenny by 2 points. Sometimes a draw. Sometimes, I think Ali stole it with his shoeshining late. Norton 3. All Norton Ali--Shavers. Draw. I'd have given Earnie a 2 point round in there and I think that makes for a draw. Ali Young, was all Jimmy Young. To think 1 ref gave Ali 13 rounds. I don't think he landed 13 clean punches. That was about as competant of scoring as Holyfiled winning that first Lewis bout.
I take no notice of Computerbox at all.I watched all those fights when they happened and several times since.
Compubox is neither facts nor infallible. Ive seen plenty of compubox stats that i know are pure bull****, scoring punches that didnt land etc. I ****ing hate compubox. Its turned the sport into amateur boxing over a longer distance. Im pretty surprised by so many people thinking Shavers beat Ali. I thought Shavers had his moments but his stamina was **** and as a result he wasnt busy enough allowing Ali to steal rounds and stay ahead on points. In a way this fight reminds me of the Giardello-Carter fight where a young guy with a dangerous (overrated) rep gets the aging champ at just the right time. The fight is his to be won and he just doesnt do enough.
