Andrew Golota...how frustrating was this guy to watch??

...Last night I watched him tear Bowe apart again (both fights) only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - twice.

It's so frustrating because Golota - to borrow a phrase from Lou Duva - was 'boxing beautiful.' He really was. That jab was formidable, he showed pretty quick hands for such a big man, had excellent movement, boxed or brawled with aplomb depending on the situation and overall showed a ton of ability.*

He had (at the time) the man many considered the best heavyweight at the time in his back pocket in the first fight, and on the brink of collapse in the second, only to throw it all away some (well, a lot of) absurdly low punches.

I really feel for him in a way, because the talent was there. He was world class against Bowe in both fights but he blew both fights and with them, a massive loss in earning potential.
Damn it Andrew, why?? What a nutcase.

People say Ruddock failed to realise his true potential, but I think Golota as was just as bad, if not worse, in this regard.

*In many ways, more than our current heavyweight champion. (Not that I want to start an argument, but that's honestly how I feel.)

He definitely had talent. But I couldn't stand the guy. Intentionally head butting Donell Nicholson when he was already winning the fight. Hitting Bowe repeatedly below the waste, when he was already thrashing him to begin with.. Then quitting whenever he was in serious trouble. Truly a despicable fighter if there ever was one.

As someone said of Jack Sharkey "The best boxer in the World from the neck up"!

Watch the Samson Po'hua fight. Once of the worst incidents of biting I've ever seen.
Po'hua had teeth marks in his neck area that were clearly visible after the fight.

He should have been banned from the sport. Not necessarily after one incident per say, but after multiple cases of blatant fouling like that and causing serious injury to other combatants, his license should have been revoked.

He had issues that's for sure. Can't fathom someone constantly fouling to that extent when in total control of a fight. Wonder if he suffered from some kind of panic attacks.

He definitely had a problem. If I were managing a fighter back then, I would have kept him away from Golata at all costs

TBF you should watch the Corey Sanders fight it was foul free and a great watch BUT the combination of a ton of steriods mixed with fatigue doth make a cowards of us all, in Andrews case he reverted to type.

That said, he was awful against Tyson (and Brewster and quite a few others) and looked as stiff as a board, the reason was he didn't have a great punching technique which really showed in the Tyson and other fights. he couldnt throw tight hooks nor was he good at gauging distance.
    Great talent though.

Ironic that he got his comeuppance against another dirty fighter in Tyson, who himself was high on marijuana during the fight.

    The aptly named Foul Pole

I remember the first Bowe fight he had the fight in the bag but blew it and then he did it again, he froze vs Lewis and quit vs Tyson and Grant....mind trouble but a talented big man with brain trouble ...I can still here Al Certo in his corner when he quit vs Tyson
