Michael Spinks is an ATG. However, he was merely a "good" heavyweight.

Casual fans/newbies don't realize how great Spinks really was.

This fight was over before either stepped into the ring. Spinks was scared shitless of Tyson. Have you seen the fight? Look I'm 51 and much of what is being said here on behalf of Tyson is complete bull ****. There were at least 5-7 fighters who folded as soon as Tyson got into the ring and Spinks was one of them. Not taking anything away from Tyson but it's pretty easy to dominate an opponent he's already trying to get out of the fight before it starts. I mean in some of his fights I swear opponents would have fallen down just watching Tyson come at them.

That said, I still rate Tyson close to the top 10 of all time and head to head he's somewhere in the top 5. I actually picked Holyfield to beat Tyson the first time they fought, not because I disliked Tyson but because he had hardly any rounds under his belt after getting out of jail. Peter McNeeley? give me a break.

One also has to consider the type of style Tyson fought. That style doesn't age well because it's too demanding. Dempsey, Marciano, Frazier all retired in their early 30's. But of the swarmer type fighters I'd put Tyson on top.

One thing I've always appreciated about Tyson is the guy could take a punch. He came damn close to beating Douglas and I doubt many, if any other fighter, could have take the punishment Lewis dished out.

Certainly his record at heavy was nothing special but a lightheavy he's in the top 10.

exactly, the fight was over before it began, tyson put fear in people not because he was feather fisted, because they knew he could knock them out. can't hold that against tyson, it was what it was.

What about when Tyson lost to Holyfield. At that point pretty much Holyfield was the top man.

Tyson is adequately rated. He for 2-3 years was the most exciting man in boxing since muhammad ali. If I am not mistaken, he was one of the last unified title holders who actually held the title for any amount of reasonable time.

    Tyson was a Beast!!!

He lost to Douglass because he didn't train as he had a beef with Don King.
Buster had just lost his mother and he was not entering the ring with any fear.

    Tyson was not overrated!!!

While Tyson had Cus he was awesome, after Cus died Kevin Rooney kept him going, but after Don King got hold of Tyson, Tyson went down hill like a lead baloon............

Got to love the excuses. He didn't train? Okay, he's not a top 10 HW. It is an excuse. He got knocked out by a tomato can in Douglas

whilst his legacy is not great and hes not a top 5er atg due to his problematic psyche, one cant deny his freakish h2h ability.

well everything about tyson is documented and filmed just go to youtube start watching from his amateur fights to his last fight against McBride. in between fights try to watch some interviews and news footage what went on in between fights and you will understand what he is.

He is underrated his best years was 1986-1988 very short time but he achieved everything he could and became unmotivated. At that short time period he proved everybody wrong defeated Angelo Dundee's fighters Fuch fighters every test he passed, proved he was real deal.

It is shame that he didn't full fill his dream of beating marcianos record. Plan was to go 50-0 and retire around 1993. Beat Evander in 1989, bowe and green Lewis.

What does Dana White have to do with this thread? I already know you guys dislike MMA and Bruce Lee, so just stick to the topic.
