No one liked sparring with Ike because of his immense power. As far as I know Ike & Kirk never sparred together let alone Kirk put him down.
Yes Curtis trained both Ike & Kirk both capable of winning a title. Both failed to do so for different reasons I feel sorry for Curtis. A great trainer
If you get chance watch a tape of the Johnson-Ruiz fight Kirk & I did in slow motion. Ruiz deserved an Oscar for his acting performances screaming foul on mostly legitimate punches. Plus it was yet another DISGUSTING referring performance from Joe Cortez He was obviously biased toward Ruiz & fell for his acting performance Kirk wasscrewed in that fight In his prime Kirk could have beaten Klitsschko but the overweight Kirk that turned up was juust there for the paycheck

That was the night I learned to hate Cortez. He really threw a f*@k into Kirks career that night. I saw it EXACTLY the same way as you did. To this day I have never seen borderline / legit shots called so harshly. I remember hearing something about Kirk intentionally gaining weight so he could deal with Vitaly's power. Thought that was just bunk! Who was promoting Kirk at the time?

Kirk went downhill when his manager led him away from Curtis Cokes. He even had a spell with Teddy Atlas . Kirk said you never saw much of Teddy in day to day training but he always showed up fight night lol

    Lewis and vitali beat him

It's true golden era of Boxing

    From de la Hoya
    Whitaker
    Nunn
    Toney
    Goat jones jnr
    Bhop
    Lewis
    Tyson
    Holyfield
    Tua
    Byrd
    Vitali
    Ike

I think Ike is a tough fight for anyone but someone like Lennox is literally amongst the best of all time

    Only Ali beats him possibly

I think Bowe wins in a legendary brawl. Ike was a tough sonofab*tch, he would give a good account of himself for sure.

Oh yes I remember Ruiz-Johnson fight. Johnson was winning, and Ruiz faked low blows. Cortez took 3 points from Kirk and then disqualified him.

It reminded me Ruiz-Holyfield 2, when in 10th rd Ruiz was knocked down by clean bodyshot (well above nuts) but Cortez ruled it as low blow and took 1 point from Holy and gave Ruiz 5 mins to recover :-( Cortez was corrupt referee...

Ike didn't have the mentality to beat world championship caliber like the Klitschkos, it is what it is. Sorry that you don't like the Klitschkos, must suck to see someone you loathe do well for such a long time :good

Do so well like the Klitschko's ???? ROFL Who have they fought??? The only LEGITIMATE fight for Vitali was Lennox Lewis. Even though Lennox was barely 80% ready he whupped Vitali TKO in 6. Chris Byrd made Vitali QUIT too :patsch

Doesn't matter who they've fought, all that matters if they fight the best competition available, that's all you can ask a champion do. So what if today's heavyweight era sucks like so many say(I disagree) that's irrelevant, why don't we judge fighters from the past for fighting poor opposition, even if they couldn't help it?

I agree that Kirk was wayyyyyy overweight & not in shape. BUT If the Kirk Johnson I knew in Dallas met Vitali He may very well have beaten him
