Kenny Norton vs Marciano's opponents. Would he have also ran the table and went 49-0?

I will have to watch Young - Norton again. I remember there was a lot of controversy at the time regarding the decision, but it has been ages since I saw the fight.

I'm not angry at all, i've made lots of friends on the forum and am in semi-regular contact with many more. Just because I think you are an idiot you see fit to mis-represent and even racially slander me :-( It's a terrible thing to see.

That's actually not what you said at all. But who cares about details like facts, eh?

This seems to be another (clumsy) racially motivated remark, but there's not accounting for trolls i suppose.

I suppose I should look upon that "if" as a triumph but knowing that you'll be saying the same thing if it suits you next time you're babbling about the same subject it will have faded. Oh well.

I thought Young won that fight but it's close enough that it's nothing to get upset about probably.

    Haha good point.

But his commitment to going to the body is something that is quite rare in the divisions history.

His power was lacking but his technique downstairs was awesome imo.

I actually agree with you but I was racking my brains trying to think of a stoppage...I think you need a couple if you want to wear a crown like that.

I bet a few of his early stoppages against out of shape journeymen are to the body.

It's actually quite hard thinking of many body shot knockouts in the division.

The Ali that fought Norton in Yankee Stadium ( and lost IMO ) was significantly better than the Ali that lost to Spinks .. he dropped a level post Manila and then another past Yankee Stadium .. likely another post Shavers ..

Norton would have destroyed a slow, plodding, hittable one armed fighter like Rex Layne .. would have been a replay of what he did to a weathered Quarry ..

Satterfield would have been an interesting question mark for Kenny as Norton acknowledged that as over the hill as Quarry was he still was hurt by the salvo of body shots Jerry caught him with. Anyone who had a big punch and could move quickly on Ken would be interesting as he could be dented. When it came to boxing the boxers though he excelled, in my book being just edged by Young, Ali in their last two goes, and Larry, all by 1 pt. That puts him over Charles, Walcott, and Layne in my book.

I didn't want to have to admit this, Chok, but I met McGrain outside of an Abid's a few years back and he kicked the dog**** out of me and gave me a wedgie I had to pay a hobo to pull out (my hands were broken). And everything I said, every begging and pleading line, he broke up into little "air quotes," point by point, and-I-I-I can't even get into this right now. The nightmares had finally stopped and I don't want them to come back.

The third Ali-Norton bout will always be contended by many as a clear loss for Ali, but that isn't what most scribes and experts said at the time. The AP has Ali up by two points as did Arthur Mercante, the judges having Ali up 1 pt each, the UPI had Norton up again by 1pt and the WWS panel had the bout a draw. With many other boxing fans I also had the decision and win go to Ali because of the 15th round.

Ali was shot against Norton in their last fight. It was still a close fight. I will have to watch it again but it is well established Ali was already in a decline. The Spinks fight was 17 months later.

the myth of norton having weak chin is boriing and not truth.. he got stopped by very hard punchers... he got a better chin than walcott.. and marciano got dropped by a 40 years old former mw and lhw. i can say that norton could break the chin of walcott first, and joe louis got a worse chin than norton for sure... louis was more times down in his career than he was on his feet

a guy with a weak chin is not taking shots from ali and holmes the 15 complete rounds.
