Yeah you're right Tyson did look relieved when he heard the final bell, the guy just pounded somebody with his best shots for 12 rounds and the guy was still standing!

Tyson was a true phenomenon in the heavyweight division. His rise to the top was more impressive than any other heavyweight in history, s much so that before he'd even fought for the title so called experts were comparing him to all time great champions. Like Ray Leonard before him everyone expected Tyson to become the new dominant champion and he did so, defending the title 9 times whilst putting on some of the best displays of elusiveness, skill and power even seen in the ring. A long time has passed since then and History has definately created a re-written history as to how great Tyson actually was back in the 80's. As for Foreman, he wasn't even expected to beat frazier in 1973, that fight was considered a warm up for Frazier for ahead of his rematch with Ali but he upset Frazier and he knocked out Ken Norton but soon after that he got totally exposed whilst fighting at CLOSE QUATERS with ALI!. Foreman was exhausted after 4 rounds with Ali and after being dropped in the eight he basically conceded the fight through exhaustion! Foreman was a great puncher but he was very easy to hit back then, he punches alot wider than Tyson does and doesn't deliver his punches nearly as quickly or with anything like the velocity of Tyson's. Thats not a good sign when youre fighting a guy like Tyson in 1988. The beginning of the end for Foreman would be that beautifully executed short, explosive 6 4 combination, right to the body right uppercut, after I see Tyson dispatching Foreman like he did Pinklon Thomas with a deadly 10 or 15 unanswed combination of ferocious punches from all angles that Foreman would not be able to recover from.

Foreman hook was just classier than all of the new alts. Ruddock would have won if
it lasted 15, funniest **** I ever heard in my life. Awesome Post Sangria.
As for Tyson on the back foot, against Douglass Tyson looked so vulnerable and
little against the ropes in the 8th, then decent uppercut then boom monster uppercut.
The uppercut that dropped Douglass would have surely dropped Foreman.
Noone has mentioned Mike's jab though. Interesting scenario Sangria as
    a more measured fight.

Foreman was tired because he basically used Ali's body and thin air as a punchbag. Tyson wouldn't have posed as much problems to hit as Ali so he wouldn't have tired at all.

Who cares about expectations? They count for nothing when the fighters are in the ring and it was a clear mismatch between Foreman and Frazier just like it would have been against Tyson.

I think you need to go watch the Frazier fight again if you don't think Foreman's punches were fast, those short little uppercuts would freeze Tyson in his tracks and he would be obliterated.

You can make a decent argument either way.

But Foreman also was tired due to Ali not only clinching him often, but pulling down on his neck illegally & the heat. Tyson never dalt with this & would be too low to do this anyway.

Most of the pro-Foreman arguments are well reasoned.

What's not clear is how deep Tyson was willing to dig back when he loved the sport. Probably deeper than we think.

If things weren't going so great Rooney might yet turn the tide, order new combinations and get Mike to believe in victory.

If there was one "time travel" fight i would like to see...this is it.
I would not underestimate 1987 -8Tyson ..although all the posters giving reasons for a Foreman victory make sense.

Sad that a potentially decent thread (if an over-discussed topic) has been ruined by 10-year old kids.
