Oquendo is moving in and throwing left hooks and big right uppercuts, drowning Mares with leather and forearm up close and cutting the ring off when Mares circles out. Mares is cut. Oquendo keeps pressing in, scorning the Mares counter jab, and works left hooks across the top of the head and uppercuts on the body.

Abner fell into the same trap Broner did... thinking they could match the accomplishments of two of the best fighters in the past few decades, while at the same time vastly overestimating their own abilities

 

Yeah, Mares is losing this fight on my score card. This run, hit, and hold isn't going to cut it.

 

Mares almost walked in on a big left hook, right after Hunter told him to watch for the hook.

 

I didn't know this was only a 10 rounder

 

Oquendo landed the best punches of the fight in that 4th round and hurt Mares with the series of uppercuts as well as some other good shots. Mares very active though. Like every round other than the 3rd, close.

 

Unlucky ruling for Mares that he was officially cut by a punch.

If the call from Bayless had been headbutt (or even that he didn't personally see a punch, which unless I'm mistaken by default makes them rule it as being from a foul?) he could milk the "I can't see" angle to push for a TD and still escape with the W before the pressure mounts and he loses more rounds or gets stopped...

 

I can hear Virgil yelling "box him!" That **** ain't boxing Virgil...

 

Virgil doesn't know how to train to a boxer's strength. He try's to turn them all int Ward.
