Who's defending that card? I disagree with it but it was no worse than that card who had Lara ahead.

Read my post again maybe the point will be more clear now.

...but I think 115-113 is the absolute farthest you can go for Canelo.

A couple rounds to Lara, a draw, and maybe a round to Canelo if you're being super generous to him - that is the range that could be lived with here tonight.

You did. You made the part of my post that you quoted that referred to Martinez's card red, to highlight it, as though it were specifically what you were addressing with your reply.

So...you were pretty clearly defending Martinez's card, ******. :hi:

I agree with the score of 117 - 111 for Alvarez. All Lara did was run around the ring, did not throw many punches at all. Alvarez landed a nice uppercut that cut Lara, he hurt Lara with body shots. Alvarez came to fight and he did. Lara ran like hell as he did not bother to fight. I guess Lara thought this was track & field............Alvarez did all the damage................

I don't get that logic. So if someone scored it 114-113 or 120-108, it still would have been a win for Canelo. It was a very close fight. Yes 117-111 was a terrible card, but it still resulted in a win for the guy who most seem to think won.

Round by round, I scored it 115 - 113 Canelo.

But if I were to judge the entire bout as a single whole, it was a lot wider.

Lara's footwork, fast hands and accurate jabs were impressive, but he FAILED TO LAND ANY SERIOUS HURT on Canelo.

On the other hand, Canelo put some significant punishment on Lara (which he will feel tomorrow).

Aside from one card that was a bit off, the decision was good.

The main event was truly a fascinating fight that definitely lived up to the hype. I scored the fight for Alvarez, 7-5 rounds, 115-113 points, giving Lara the first three rounds, the 6th, and the 10th. I thought the 10th and 11th rounds were extremely close and very difficult to score, the 5th and 12th rounds were close, and the other rounds were fairly straightforward to score.

In the first four rounds, Lara showed excellent footwork in continually moving around the periphery of the ring on the balls of his feet, working a good sharp jab to help keep Alvarez at distance. He won the 1st round solely with his jab, then in the next three rounds he started mixing in sharp straight left and right hands to the head. Alvarez was forced to continually plod in straight lines around the ring stalking Lara. Alvarez did land two good body shots in the 1st (a left and then a right with about a minute left in the round), and during the 2nd he landed five more good body shots, including three single left hooks and one nice double right hook. In the 3rd, Alvarez was literally chasing Lara around the ring, and Lara made him badly miss most of his punches in the round, to the point that Alvarez seemed visibly frustrated by the end of the round. In the 4th, Lara was still moving well, but he threw considerably fewer punches in the round; he started with a hard jab, then Alvarez responded with a flurry in which he landed three good left hooks to the body but wildly missed his punches to the head; Alvarez then landed a L-R body combo, Lara landed a jab-straight L combo, Lara landed two jabs and a left to the torso, and Alvarez landed a jab-R body combo. During the 4th, Alvarez sustained a cut to his right eyelid from a punch, but it never seemed to cause him problems during the fight.

Lara started the 5th very well, with a hard jab, a quick L-R combo to the head, and later a nice straight left to the head. Alvarez rallied with a good R-L-R-L body combo, then a right to the body, then a L-R-L body combo. Lara rallied with a hard straight R-L combo to the head, Alvarez landed a borderline left hook to the body, Lara landed a left hook to the body, then Lara worked his jab for a short time, Alvarez landed a good right uppercut, then Lara landed a hard straight L-R combo to the head. While Lara was still having success, it was during this 5th round that he started moving more slowly around the periphery of the ring as Alvarez's body shots began taking their toll, and Alvarez was now starting to have success in closing the distance between them, and landing more and more body shots.

Lara started the 6th by working his jab, Alvarez landed a left to the body, then Alvarez got in close and let his hands go while Lara countered with his own flurry, but neither landed anything significant. Lara landed a jab-L cross combo, then a jab-straight L combo, Alvarez landed a right to the body, Lara landed a jab, then a jab-straight L combo, then another couple jabs, and Alvarez closed the round with a left hook to the head and a right to the body. Alvarez was still missing a lot of punches, but he was forcing the action, and he was still closing the distance between them.

Lara started the 7th very well with two good jab-L body combos, followed by a few good jabs. Alvarez moved in for a 3-punch combo to the body, and Lara responded with a straight right and then a jab-straight R combo to the head. Alvarez rallied very strongly over the rest of the round, beginning with a double left hook to the body, another left hook to the body, a left hook to the head, a good left hook to the body, big left and right uppercuts, and a R-L body combo; Lara got a few shots in during this time, including a jab-straight L combo, and a straight left to the head. It was the left uppercut by Alvarez in this round that opened a cut on Lara's right eyelid, but it didn't seem to cause Lara problems during the rest of the fight.

Lara started the 8th by working his jab for about the first minute, then Alvarez landed a good straight right to the head, Lara landed a jab-straight L combo to the head and then an overhand right, Alvarez landed a left hook to the body, and then a 4-punch combo flurry to the head and body; there was no action for the last 30 seconds or so of the round, as Lara was retreating and Alvarez was stalking. By this time, Lara's footwork and ring movement was getting even slower, he was becoming more flatfooted, and Alvarez was having more and more success in closing the distance between them.

The 9th round began Lara jab, Alvarez left hook to body, Lara jab, Alvarez left hook to body. Alvarez landed a straight left. Lara partially landed a L-R-L combo to the head, Alvarez partially landed a L-R combo to the head. Alvarez landed a few body shots, then a (very rare) jab, then a good L body-R uppercut-L body combo, and then a left hook to the head. Lara closed the round with a jab-straight R combo to the head.

For the first time in the fight, the 10th round began with Lara NOT working his jab, and so Alvarez was able to quickly get in tight to work. Alvarez landed a jab, which Lara countered with a straight right. Lara landed a really good L-R-L combo to the head, Alvarez landed a straight right, Lara landed a straight left and then a really nice L-R combo to the head. Alvarez landed a good 4-punch combo to the body and then a left hook to the body. Lara landed a straight left and a jab. Alvarez landed a good jab-R body-L body combo, and Lara closed the round with a straight left.

The 11th also began with Lara not working his jab, and the first 30 seconds of the round passed without much incident. Lara then landed a jab, then a straight right, then a straight left. Alvarez landed a left to the body. Lara landed a 3-punch head-body combo. Alvarez landed a left hook to the head and a nice L-R combo to the head, Lara landed a jab-straight L combo to the head, Alvarez landed a left to the body. Surprisingly, this was a relatively quiet round, as Lara was circling/retreating and Alvarez was stalking, and the crowd even booed at one point during the round.

Lara began the 12th by landing a jab-straight L combo. Alvarez then landed a left hook to the body, and then a R-L-R-L combo to the body, and then a 5-punch combo to the body which ended with an uppercut to the head. Lara landed a straight left and then a jab-straight L combo to the head. Alvarez landed a left hook to the body, Lara landed a partial jab-straight L combo to the head, Alvarez landed another left to the body which led to one of the very rare clinches in the fight with 1 minute left in the round. Lara landed a straight left, Alvarez landed a left hook to the body and then partially landed a L-R combo to the head, and then Lara landed a straight left near the end of the round and the fight.

This was truly a fascinating fight, and a great stylistic matchup that had both fighters playing to their own strengths. Lara's plan was to use his considerable speed and footwork advantage to work the periphery of the ring, forcing Alvarez to chase him, and to use his considerable height and reach advantage to control the action with his jabs and straight rights and lefts to the head. Whatever Alvarez's plan was coming into the fight, during the fight it became simply to chase down Lara in the hope of catching up to him, and landing enough body shots to slow him down. Lara's plan worked very well for 4 rounds, but Alvarez landed enough body shots to have him start slowing down by the 5th round, and from then on, Alvarez had increasing success getting in more and more tight on Lara, and landing more and more of his thumping body shots, slowing down Lara more and more. A real vicious circle!!! Lara was the classier fighter overall, with his speed (in the early rounds), footwork, ring movement, and sharp straight punches to the head; the problem was, his ring movement often resembled retreating, and his workrate wasn't always good enough to compensate for that. Alvarez, by comparison, looked fairly primitive, stalking Lara with his plodding straightline movements, never being able to cut off the ring, never moving his head during exchanges. But he was smart to target Lara's body, and in the end, the body shots won him the fight. The final punch stats, which had Alvarez landing 73 body punches, out of an overall total of 97 of 415 punches landed, show how persistent he was with his plan. Overall the fight was extremely close, and the two cards of 115-113 for Alvarez and 115-113 for Lara seemed fair enough, while the card of 117-111 for Alvarez was a surprise, and probably an admonishment of Lara's style. In the end, this was an absolutely fantastic win for Alvarez over the epitome of a high-risk low-reward opponent, and Alvarez deserves tremendous respect for taking this fight, let alone winning it.
