According to Eddie Hearn, Joshua will be fighting Yaroslav Zavorotnyi on 30th August, this is who David Price last fought (Price's 20th pro fight) & went the distance with, he also went the distance with Kubrat Pulev (Pulev's 11th pro fight). According to boxrec Joshua is also scheduled to fight Michael Sprott on October 11th, not bad for a HW prospects 8th & 9th fight IMO, thoughts? Also what did you think of his performance against a ring rusty yet game Matt Skelton? And lastly who would you have Joshua fight in his 10th pro fight?
If neither of them bouts go at least eight rounds, then a 'Zack Page' type opponent (perhaps not Page himself as Zack finally seems be losing some of that durability) makes sense to finish the year off. If Joshua gets eight rounds in, in at least one of them bouts, then a bit of a rest in preparation for cracks at a minor International or for domestic honours in the New Year. Anthony is still young, there is no need rush or to take 'silly' risks.
Vinny Maddalone would be ideal at this stage for Joshua- he'll come to fight and probably pose a few questions. Kevin Johnson may be on the horizon next year as he's durable and a decent talker/seller.
Agree with both, no need to rush him, opponents like Kevin Johnson, Guinn & Sherman Williams will be ideal to give him valuable rounds. On another note in a couple of months time Gary Cornish & Sam ***ton will be fighting in a british title eliminator, i cant see the winner of Fury-Chisora defending the belt against Cornish/***ton & will most likely vacate to chase a world title shot as the fight is a WBO eliminator. Could it be a possibilty Joshua-Sprott will be made a british eliminator also which could result in Joshua/Sprott/***ton/Cornish battling it out for the vacant british title? Just brain storming here, winnable fights for Joshua IMO.
That is a big possibility, however i feel Josh seriously needs some rounds before he faces ***ton or cornish. The Zak Page fight would be ideal after Sprott at the end of the year imo
U could well be right, I agree with you, would be a good route to take. Joshua in his 10th fight should be fighting for British title
I'm a little worried AJ could fall into the Price trap, he needs rounds against durable guys. Last thing he wants is to go up the levels with hardly any experience of going the distant.
I agree that AJ needs to get the rounds under his belt, I fear he is a ko waiting to happen, keeps that right hand dangerously low when throwing the jab.
Think he would put today's Sprott away in 1 or 2, reckon that Zavorotnyi will give him some rounds though.
Next 2 fights are great fights for a novice and shows how highly rated he is. No need to rush him too quickly though.
I don't know enough to suggest names, but I agree that young Mr Joshua needs to fight someone who will give him rounds. It's just a bit too easy for him at the moment.
If AJ fights Zavorotnyi I wonder how many rounds it'll be over ? Skelton was only a six rounder so to step up to 10 with a clearly durable opponent that a big puncher like Price coulnt finish will be a great indicator AJs progress.
