I've became a massive boxing fan over the last few years and recently started doing some training at my local boxing gym only due to my interest in the sport. As a beginner I've only been doing some light bag work and mostly focusing on my general fitness/stamina. I'm looking for some advice from more experienced guys than myself on how to work on footwork and movement and even learn about the technique itself. Also as I train alone is it better to work on movement in a pair or group? Thanks
Movement as with everything else comes as you go with practice, if you're doing double end or heavy bag thro a combo use head movement and then side step. Move both way and slide it and out. Practice while shadow boxing as well.
Shadowboxing has been the best thing for my footwork. Do rounds of shadowboxing just focusing on footwork and watch yourself in front of a mirror. Once you get better at it, you should also try it with your eyes close which helps with your balance and coordination
You have to know how to move properly- always keeping your feet the same distance apart, not crossing your feet, etc...Then you need to know how to co-ordinate your hands and feet. So that you can step in with your jab and follow it with the right, for example. Then you have to learn how to slid your feet and follow your weight. This is how you slip, bob/weave, and punch while doing so.
