This should be a good argument. I think Cotto is the best hes ever been right now! Most ppl will say how? its Roach...freddie MOFO Roach :lol:

Cotto has had trainers before but we all know that Roach is the best he's ever had. PPL cant underestimate how far having good coach can take u. if u ever done any sports...hell anything in real life they need some training (which everybody has needed training in something in there life) then a could coach can take u a long ways.

Most will argue how could a 33 yr old Cotto be better then when he was..i dont know 26? Well u might say he was in his prime but ppl have prime confused with young. Just cause ur young doesnt automatcally mean ur in ur prime. Canelo right now is not in his prime. he will get better and if he was to ever switch to like Roach then i think he could take it to a whole new level. Can Cotto be in his prime right now? That could be a strecth but i think this is the best hes ever been.

PPL will say Beating Rodriguez and Martinez doesnt say anything but 95% saying Cotto had no shot against Martinez will say otherwise. then when Cotto spanks like I said ppl want to say martinez is shot. but dont like at the opponet look at how hes fighting.

Body shots like back in the day is BACK! thats what made Cotto and if u notice he got away from throwing them, even when he fougt Mayweather and wasnt throwing them. bad coaching in my eyes. the footwork! hes always had some but his last 2 fights it looks damn good. Roach said they could beat Martinez with ring generalship alone and it looked like it. Cotto was moving damn good and cut off the ring great. how about defense? Cotto's defense has always been supsepct u can tell from the Torres fight, Corley and thats when Cotto was 23-24. Now u might say Martinez didnt have any legs and couldnt throw but he was throwing but couldnt land. I think this is the best Cotto's defense has ever been!

Those are my factors and i think Cotto is the best hes ever been. espcially with a good 4-5 years off the bircks! that took alot out of him but nows he back and better then ever.

Just in my case i've always been a monster on drums but never had a drum instructor. then one day i was able to learn under Brian Mason (one of the best drum instructors in the whole world) then it took me to a whole new level. I was a beast at 18 but I'm Prime right now at 28 now. so dont confuse young with prime.

Anyhow thats what I think. How u guys feel? u think a 25 Cotto can beat this 33 Cotto with better defense, better footwork? I say no and I say Cotto is the best hes ever been right now! lets have a good debate for oncemon these forums. fire away! :bbb:bbb

I don't think he is the same guy that walked into the Margarito fight back in 2008 but his next fight(hopefully Canelo) will prove where he is. Cotto at any stage of his career would take care of Rodriguez and we just don't know what kind of condition Martinez was really in going in to his fight with Cotto.

    you could be right.

The bricks is killer and thats a great argument to say that Cotto was the best he ever was. but when i've watched him the last 2 fights he just looks damn good. and hes defense is whats really different. even before the Margartio fight Cotto's defense wasnt very good. I rememeber Judah had him bleeding bad in the 2nd round. Thats the big differnece I see

Cotto pre Mosley fight definitely didn't give as thought to his defence which is what in part earned him so many fans but I agree he may just have struck the right balance with Roach between offence and defence.

Cotto hasn't been good in years. Martinez couldn't support his own body weight and went down every time he was touched, not punched, just physically pushed or leaned on.

after dominating the great sergio martinez there aren't any middleweights who could hang with cotto so i guess he's going to go up and fight kovalev, stevenson or hopkins next.

I agree this is the best he's been.

Mainly, I believe he is more economical- making each shot count more than before. The result of that will increasingly be that he is less likely to run out of gas.

Also agree- best defense I've seen from him.

As stated elsewhere, in the Canelo debate I believe Canelo would throw more power overall in 12 rounds... but in terms of single shots they could be even power-wise.

Would be a good fight to watch.

He looked good against Martinez can't wait to see who his next oppoennet is ..They should really go after Quillen and pick up that belt ..I'm curious to see who they fight next,I hear Canelo is the front runner but who knows .

HUGE Cotto fan here.....been a fan since he was a kid in the Moosa fight.

But as much as I like Cotto, I don't think he could beat Quillin, a natural MW much less Canelo, a potential LHW.

Cotto was prime at 147...much like Sergio was. Cotto had his best yrs there until MargoCheato got his bricks on him.
That said.....it took a prime brick glove MargoCHEATO 11 rds to finally put him away, and it took a prime Pacqioua dehydrating him to 145 and 12 rds to take him out.
He hung around at 147 til he knew he couldnt beat those guys and took a chance moving to 154 vs the weakest of 4 titlists.

He made 2 quality defenses of his title, but he was clearly shown to be too small vs Trout and too slow vs Mayweather.

Again.....he knew he couldnt hang at 154, so he snuck a title vs the weakest MW titlist. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Can he retain it????

That's gonna depend on who and when and where he fights.

I think Bob should rightly match him with Bradley at 155 to make his first defense and some dough. But if he wins that, and re-signs with Arum for another fight, he'll be sacrificed to Canelo on the Mayweather v Pac undercard as chief support for the record breaking event.

If he wants to continue on as "Champion", he should leave Bob after Bradley, and go back to being his own promoter/mgr. He could fight Martinez in a rematch, make about 6 mil, then fight Rubio and make another 6.

Maybe after Rubio, he goes up to SMW, and challenges whichever titlist is weakest, ie Abraham, Dirrel:think
