So far I like the fights that Tyson has promoted.

In an interview Tyson said he decided to start a promotion company after attending a **** poor 50 cents event. He said that if 50 cents could put on a show he was 100% sure he could do it better, and he was right.

With Mike Tyson's name and the fact that he cares for the sport and the boxers, will his company grow and become a major force within the sport on the level of a Goosen or Shaw?

his actually got quiet a good stable for how long his been in the sport

signing erikson lubin was an incredibly impressive coup, i view him as one of the best prospects in the whole of boxing and a potential superstar

also lots of cubans seem to want to sign with him thats a good sign if he can continue to sign defects in the future

Iron Mike has signed a few good Mexican fighters also.
I can see this may lead to some good future match ups with GBP fighters.

Wonder why Oscar is begging to Arum when he could be helping Mike to co-promote.
With Oscar & Mike being two of the biggest names in the sport GBP could be even larger than they were before.

The way I see it, it all depends on Mike Tyson and his interest in being one of the larger promotional companies.
If he is dedicated to that goal I don't see why he can't grow the company to be as large and successful as GBP and definitely larger than TR.

    Doubt it.

To achieve well as a promoter you have to be a shady corrupt mofo or have some background in banking or law OR IDEALLY BOTH.

Don King - 'bit' of a gangster, corrupt scumbag with his hands in people's pockets and had people in his pockets - illegal bookmaking operation knew how to game systems.

Bob Arum - ...Do I need to give a description lol? educated Harvard law school and worked as an attorney...
Richard Schaeffer - Swiss banker turns promoter (pretty much ran goldenboy not ODL)
Al Haymon ('The advisor NOT promoter lel') - studied economics at Harvard
Lou DiBella - graduate of Tufts University and Harvard Law School

He will eventually hire corrupt advisers if the promotion slowly grows, that's a given.

Exactly he will have powerful sidemen who end up having more control and power in the organisation than Tyson himself...just using his name.

It's especially important to have an understanding and education in law if you are operating in the great united states of SueMERICA

Tyson is a little more intellectual than Oscar.
He says he started the company so that fighters would have a company where they won't get ripped off and become broke like him. I'm amazed how Tyson has grown and matured over the years.

Also, a degree in economics cannot be compared to a law degree. Lawyers are formally trained to lie and talk out of both sides of their mouths. :yep

Mike didn't really 'start' it though...he is the president & Garry Jonas is the CEO...do some research on Mr.Jonas...just another scam artist lol who saw a brilliant 'partnering' opportunity with Mike.

    good read:

He might be more intellectual but that means jack**** in business unfortunately. It's all about your connections and who you have surrounding you and managing things with you that carries a business far. Tyson certainly has the name, now all he needs are trustworthy(definitely hard to find, but if paid right they can pretend to be) partners to help carry this promotion to a higher level. The name recognition all alone already gives them a step forward because the name is already a household/established and well-known name. So for a start this has a serious chance to being successful, now all he needs are the right people and things shouldn't go wrong from there.

I don't know where their relationship stands at present, but a few years back didn't China name Mike Tyson it's Ambassador of Boxing and sponsored his trip there to advise on shaping up China's boxing program?

In contrast, didn't England deny Tyson a visa and barred him from entering he country?

Anyway, over the next decade China will definitely start to have a big impact on the sport. With 3 billion people, it's only a matter of time before they have an international breakthrough Chinese boxing star.
Mike could definitely use his new promotional company to house new Chinese & Asian boxing talents.

Tyson has been vocal on his distaste for the way certain FORMER affiliates of GBP were ruining boxing.

If anything, he'll want his fighters going to HBO where there are more openings and larger fanbase.

If he signs his best fighters to HBO, he'll be dealing with Duva, Arum, and Goosen.
Goosen is being sued by Ward in part, for not allowing Haymon on as an advisor.:yep And Tyson hates that sneaky POS.:nono

Probably not... You need a very high IQ like Oscar De La Hoya or the Klitschkos in order to get into promoting, Oscar is very smart.. Probably could have gone to law school. Tyson is well read, but he doesn't have the brains or the patience required to succeed at promoting.
