Oscar de la Hoya is completely unknown in the UK and I assume Europe and everywhere else, the Americas aside.

Chris Eubank on the other hand was on the front and back pages of the UK tabloids most days and rarely ever off the TV screens for a period. Nobody, not Ali, had that level of exposure in the UK.

Tyson was a global megastar. Kids these days will never know how big he was.

Sky Sports did high PPV buys on Tyson in the 90's. And that was on the middle of the night.

De La Hoya was another superstar. People who didn't know boxing still knew who Oscar was.

Yeah, Oscar I think does deserve to be mentioned.

I think Floyd is trying to get to that level, but he just doesn't have it.

If you're talikng global, and I really mean global from Outer Mongolia to the Bronx, then I think really there's only ever been one and that's Ali by some considerable distance.
Then Tyson,Dempsey,Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson.

I think you would find that Frank Bruno was a far bigger name than Eubank ever was here in the UK and indeed globally.

Pretty much how i see it as no others come close to the above.

I would even go as far as to say that Ali & Tyson combined may have a higher percentage than all the others put together.

I was in the Middle East stuck in the middle of a desert & a Bedouin camal train came past, I had on my Tyson Tank top, the arab's all screamed out & pointed at me...Arhhhh....Tyyyyyyysooooooooooooon..Myyyeeeek Tyyyysooooon!..The middle of the f*ckin desert..LOL....One of the bedouin had on a MAN U shirt & another had a NY Yankees baseball cap, worlds getting smaller & smaller!

I think Olympic Gold medalists during the Cold War got Global reach. Along with Ali/Clay, Joe Frazier & George Foreman are not far behind, all due to the ALI tie-up of coarse. Post war, Marciano/Robinson without doubt, Radio was a big thing back then, well, the only thing, then along came Clay/Ali, the whole world new who the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP was back then! ALI/TYSON hold sway today, but whats all this shyte with Oscar De La Hoya????? = UNKNOWN outside of the USA...110% period!

No. No sportsman has come close to the kind of exposure Eubank got for a period, with the exception of David Beckham.

Being well-known in one's own country isn't global.

Chris Eubank could have flown over American in a blimp with his name flashing in 1 million megawatt lights and hardly anyone would have recognized the name, much less recognized him if he walked past them on the street.

Strange bird, that Eubank. I guess his schtick just didn't translate outside the UK. I saw one fight on video where he took a step back and kind of baby-clapped his gloves and the crowd acted like the Beatles had reunited and learned to fly while playing their greatest hits.

He was heavily in the German tabloids before the Rocchigiani fight, and had higher figures than Baby Jake Matlala on SABC in South Africa and the highest figures on Star in Asia.

Still not in the same league as Bruno, let alone Ali,Tyson etc.

Don't forget we are talking GLOBAL and not Brighton.

You sure about that? I can't imagine why Eubank would be popular here.
