"Protect yourself at all times" is just an excuse scumbags use to not have any conscience about their actions. It's one of those wash your hands of all blame expressions like "Don't hate the player, hate the game" or "buyer beware." Like yourself, it bothers me even more when I see a great fighter fighting dirty, because it's so unnecessary. That's partly why I was upset with Mayweather when he cheap shotted Gatti and Ortiz. When you are head and shoulders above another fighter and are already going to win, why resort to cheating, unless you are just a mean spirited douche? When people cheat like that it shows they don't respect their opponent, the sport, or the fans. They don't care how they win so long as they win. It's all about them, their victory, their money, and they don't care if it's not fair to their opponent, or if their fans aren't getting their money's worth. Cheating is selfish. It's cowardly, and the antithesis of what this sport is about. This sport is about courage, strength, overcoming adversity, behaving with dignity and heart. Cheating, taking the easy way out, is not manly. It is unworthy of a champion.
******, do your family and the internet a favor and hang yourself. --- On topic, the headbutt sure as hell wasn't intentional. Headbutts happen in the sport and it was more of Sod charging in hard. [yt]H3yZ8SvGMtY[/yt]
No the ref gave him 30 sec to recovery !! Ref's fault!! The ref should have given the fighter more time to recover, Rig seeing this to the opportunity to end things.
I would say protect yourself at all times, but Kokietgym actually did. He immediately put his guard up, and blocked the right hand. The left got through though. It is what it is. It wasn't as bad as Mayweather vs Ortiz, because Kokietgym actually attempted to defend. Got to be ready at all times. If it isn't illegal, why cry about it? Sure Rigs could have touched gloves, and then reset stepping back a few steps, but who is to say that Kokietgym wouldn't have tried something similar? Hopefully Rigondeaux signs with somebody who will get him decent fights. You want to see action, but him in with similar opponents as what Donaire was fed at 118, and 122. Rigs would have a whole heap of KO's if he got to fight the Montiel's, Sydorenko's, Arce's, Vazquez Jr.s etc.
If you watch the replay a couple of times you can see the Kokietgym most likely wouldn't have tried the same thing because of his foot position and body placement. Rigo steps forward and taps the extended glove of his opponent and then hooks off of it, all in one motion (sort of like in pad work when you jab and then hook off the jab). Kokietgym was standing more or less vertical (his right extended, his left by his chest as opposed to at his chin), his feet pretty close together. My point being that Kokietgym wasn't in a position to deliver any kind of power into this hypothetical-shot-that-he-might-have-possibly-considered-throwing, whereas Rigo tapped the extended glove (after an unintentional butt) and stepped forward leveraging himself for power in the same movement. But yeah, it's legal. No sense in crying about it. It is a crap move and I'd much prefer that if a fighter didn't want to touch gloves that they indicate it before their opponent extends the offer (by shaking their head or something along those lines).
it was the referee's fault sod wasn't ready to fight still dazad from that headbutt a few more minutes would have helped him clear his head
Had Rigs touched gloves and got clobbered right after, there would be a whole heap of people some of the same ones crying now, gloating and laughing their arses off. So cut it with the fake outrage.
