Why dont you care? Tyson faced the most powerful puncher in ruddock whom holyfield, holmes and even foreman wanted no part off. Tyson has shown no evidence of ever being taken out with a single punch, he was no morrison or Michael moorer.
Tua hit harder than Ruddock for sure and he didn't telegraph is punches like Razor did. Don't bring other fighters into it because I don't believe for one second Holyfield would dodge Ruddock, if that's the case why did he fight both Tyson and Lewis who both beat him??
Tuas never been knocked out and just recently went down. Tyson didn't ko everyone, tua has one of the best chins ever, he wouldn't ko tua. Tyson would become frustrated and gas, tua late ko.
Holyfield opted to fight a mummy Foreman rather than ruddock who was feared at that time. I have seen articles from that time where many boxing analysts, experts and ex fighters were making comments about what a huge career risk Tyson was taking by fighting him.
you think Tua could Ko Tony Tucker, or Douglas or Holyfield? Tysons a superior fighter, he got tired of running after opponents, when did Tyson ever get tired punching the **** out of somebody? Tua gets blasted out. Tyson stops him in mid rounds. The closest thing to a Tua type fighter that Tyson fought was Ruddock, who Tyson beat twice. The closest thing to Tyson that Tua fought was Ike which Tua lost. And Ike had nothing on Mike
We are talking about a 1985-88 Tyson, Tua did not face any fighter of that Tysons level. Tyson dealt with powerful punches of Bruno, ruddock, and survived 8 rounds as a dead mummy against Lewis who was battering his face non stop. Tyson had a more diversified arsenal and had much more dimensions from 1985-88 to deal with Tua. Tuas chin might be good, his power might be good but he had never dealt with 5-10 punches 1-3 second combinations. Tuas 1 punch power would be irrelevant if Tyson bobs and weaves out of them and Tyson has shown he had the chin to withstand monstor hits. Point is I would back even the 97 Tyson who fought holyfield to put up a good show against Tua but ofcourse from 1999 onwards Tua is the favorite.
Btw Tua is among my personal fav as well. I was disappointed he didn't really do much in his career. The Catskill training methods and ideology could have worked for him
Ike was a huge disappointment. He had the perfect physique and power and height. He could have been an absolute monstor heavy weight. The commentators were shocked at his work rate and the no of punches an average he threw in that fight.
You're talking out your ass calling Foreman a mummy, can you send me a link proving Holyfield ducked Ruddock because I ain't buying it. Why would Holyfield want to fight someone who'd just been beaten twice by Tyson??
Foreman of 1992-94 was nothing like the Foreman of the 70's, just look at the way he moves and punches. He intelligently used his one punch power against a guy with the worst chin of all time Moorer.
Holyfield struggled against Holmes whom Tyson beat convincingly. Holyfield was not a perfect fighter, he put in poor performances when he was least expected too as well.
Tua struggled with guys like Maskaev, Izon, Rahman, to name only a few. Guys a level or two below Tyson. And don't give me the styles thing because Tyson was far superior to those guys. Tua might be able.to last the distance but he's getting a severe beating along the way.
Whilst I agree that Tyson would win, why would Tyson being far superior to Izon, Rahman, or Maskaev have anything to do with styles? I think Tua would actually be a decent fight for Tyson. He had the chin, punching power and inside fight game to go head to head with Tyson for a while I think.
I remember hearing Tua being called a poor man's Mike Tyson back in the 90's when he was in his prime. That said, I don't see the poor man's Tyson beating the real Tyson anytime before 2002. The imposter who showed up against Lennox Lewis and the totally shot version who lost to Williams and McBride yes.
