Yes I agree there that he beat Ricky who is/was a world level fighter.. I meant before there fight.. In my opinion Zlaticanin is domestic level. I believe Ricky got his tactics wrong as he should be beating guys like that with ease.. The one thing you deserve 100% credit for is how much you stick by Ricky even with what's happened. In this day and age you can't buy that kind of loyalty.
Billy Zlaticanin has a punchers record, but the only notable names on his resume apart from Ricky are Felix Lora and Petr Petrov and he went the distance with the 2 of them. That's suggest he's not that big of a puncher when he moves up a level. Ricky made this guy look good IMO and I don't think Zlaticanin is better than the domestic boys. I'm sure Ronnie would fancy his chances against Zlaticanin and I know Scott Harrison would beat Zlaticanin.
Not seen Ronnie fight but instead of telling us how well he fared against ricky burns in sparring. How about getting him in there with someone with a name in the grand scheme of things and see how he fairs. Zlaticanin better than domestic. Scott harrison definetely would not beat him.
I hear you mate. Good luck for the upcoming fight. Looks like a step up in opponent. Hopefully open doors for him if he can get the win.:good
Burns was very disappointing against Zlaticanin and made him look good. Ricky couldn't even seem to get the basic stuff right on the night. Zlaticanin wasn't the fastest of fighters and he never had a steady work rate through out the fight and even though he kept telegraphing those big lefts of his they kept hitting Burns all night long. This wasn't the same Ricky Burns who fought Martinez or Moses or the same Burns that came roaring back against Gonzalez. Ricky looked a shadow of the world class fighter he used to be. IMO the domestic boys are every bit as good as Zlaticanin if not better. I think Anthony Crolla would beat him and I bet Joe Gallagher would take that fight in a heartbeat for Crolla if they were guaranteed a World title shot. Crolla would pick Zlaticanin off and win on points IMO. I'm not the biggest fan of Kevin Mitchell, but him against Zlaticanin would be a 50/50 fight. If Mitchell's chin could hold up then I could see him out boxing him possibly stopping him late. Liam Walsh has good speed and movement and I think he would do what Ricky should have done and beat Zlaticanin comfortably on points. Even a rusty old Scott Harrison would beat Zlaticanin IMO. Scott with his better footwork and punch selection would do the business.
Spot on with every point you made there Ryan. Zlaticanin is levels of world class, was just meant to be a confidence builder for Ricky, and an easy route back to a world title fight. The guys punches were crude and slow, its like Ricky was a rabbit stuck in headlights and could not get out the way.
Zlaticanin would batter scott harrison senseless. Actually watched a scott harrison documentary last night....on the ropes i think it was called from a few years back. Good viewing. Really showed you how much dedication you need to be at or near the top level. Comes across like a decent guy scott and was clear that all his troubles were drink related. But dedicating your whole life to something the way he did you need to have a screw loose or eventually you will...... Training three times a day as hard as they did. Day after day. Dieting to stay at that weight he was as a kid. In the end will take it's toll mentally if not physically. Hope he does well in the comeback but really think he should call it a day once and for all. Had a great career. He'll never get anywhere near where he was...time to look at life outside the ring. Weather thats helping his old man or whatever. Talking about him beating burns etc just pub talk now...
Iv'e read you think Scott's still got great footwork Ryan, without doubt he used to be excellent the best iv'e worked with but in his last fight that was defo missing and missing big time
Am sure with all the time spent in the gym over the last year or so that he has got footwork up to scratch, would definitely think you can get that back. With inactivity, you can lose stamina, reflexes, timing, but footwork should come back with hard graft
i strongly disagree moog everything at Scott's age slows down and I'm not meaning just Scott. However it was very apparent his footwork was slower than before hence the reason he was caught so often hence the reason he lost, now Walsh even now isn't near Ricky so I'd fear the worst for Scott should they fight. You fully admit you can lose many attributes with inactivity that would also be a major negative against Scott
Of course it is, but so is getting battered 4 times in 1 year. Scott could still fight at a quick pace v Walsh for 7-8 rounds, I think he won first 5 rounds (that was with a 3-4 week camp), so I think with 12n week camp he will do 10-12 rounds well, and be quicker than in Walsh fight. That would be amazing in itself, but he is a natural athlete (so is Ricky). Its not a coincidence Ricky, Scott, Froch, Calzaghe had/have great engines, all 15 round fighters if you like, and all won so many world title fights.
Ricky never took a beating in those fights, granted he got his jaw broke. But he lives the life of a true champion and those many many many nights of abusing his body have caught up with Scott. I agree in his prime he was what your saying and getting away with his antics but not now
Ricky was taking a beating of Gonzalas, Beltran, Crawford and Zlaticanain Billy. Scott says he can now get down to 9'4ib so maybe he is thinking sfw
i can assure you he wasn't against Jose or Crawford and was unmarked against Zlaticanin So Scott can now do 9st 4lbs so is that him ruling himself out boxing RB mind you he could fight Ronnie Clark
