They have guys like Xavi,Iniesta,Puyol(until recently), Alonso, Villa who were all small and mostly slow. Xavi pretty much moved outside of a 10 yard sq box in the middle of the field.

Players like them would have probably never been given the chance in the UK or Germany because when they were 16 they would have been discarded as "too small, too slow, wont be able to compete physically"

If you want to talk about guys who are suspiscious, look at English or American players who run constantly for the 90 mins.

Guys like Theo Walcott who basically sprints up and down the wing for ebntire games.

That full back from the US, whose name I cant remember.

Spanish games was based on short constant passing which takes the running part of the attack out of it.

The ball moves so they dont have to. Sure they pressure the ball on defence, but so do most teams.

Looks at the teams who actually cover the most ground. Its not Spain.

A team like Ireland has players who run constantly for 90 minutes, hassling, harrying, getting to the byline and whipping crosses in and booting route 1 long balls.

Spain NEVER does that, because they let the ball do the work. When was the last time you saw Iniesta or Xavi get the ball deep and run 50 yards with the ball? Taking guys on? They never do that?

Or Garcia sprinting the end line and whipping a ball in, to a big physical centre forward?

They dont even rely on fast counter attacking like the Italians. They'd rather slow the game down, take 30 passes and pry open a defense.

their short (and long) passing game is dependent on constant movement off the ball. they describe it as high intensity themselves. it requires much greater stamina than sitting deep and hitting teams on the break. every elite sportsman is likely using, i referenced spain because of operacion puerto, the conviction of fuentes, football failing to test for epo and doping only recently becoming illegal in spain.

Some Spanish guy involved in the Puerto case said as much that if everything came out, Spain would have lost at least their World and one European title. And some unnamed tennis player a couple of his grand slam titles :!:

But how did this Wach vs Fury thread become a doping in football thread? :blood

although to be fair, if you play in EVERY GAME all the way to the final, then AT LEAST SOME of your players are going to rate as the ones covering the most ground...by sheer dint of them being on the pitch longest compared to every other team except the other finalist.

The statistic you'd really be looking for is ground covered per time period on pitch.

First of all it was the 2010 World Cup and the reason xavi covered the most is because he was on the picth longer than anyone else 7 games and extra time

On average Michael Bradley from the USA ran the most in games, USA on average covered the most ground, pillowed by Japan and Ghana . Spain weren't even in the top 5 of distance covered
