    LOL.
It's people like you who are prompting threads to be created calling those who know something about boxing, snobs.

    Look.
Cutting off the ring is a basic fundamental you are taught.
if your opponent is using lots of movement and you simply follow him around the ring, then you are playing his game, fighting his fight. You will probably lose.
To cut off the ring you anticipate where your opponent will be and position yourself to be there. If he changes direction then you walk hin down and do the same thing.
Watch the Angulo - Lara fight and you will see that Angulo is much better at cutting off the ring than Canelo.

That's because Angulo charges with no defence , canelo in all fairness should move quicker , but most Cubans are excellent at fainting off the ropes meaning if they want to they can run for an entire fight just like Lara did,

Running backwards for 36 minutes does not win you a boxing match

None of them were runners. If you're a boxing instructor I feel sorry for your students but I highly doubt you are because you don't know wtf you're talking about. You can not cut the ring off against a guy moving laterally the whole round, he will just switch directions.

Again show me an example where a guy cut the ring off against a blatant runner like Lara.

Man, if you can't appreciate both styles then you can't appreciate boxing.

To your point about snobbery though:
Shakespeare in Love (and I can't stress this enough) was not a movie for snobs. It was a rom-com-period-piece. If anything, both movies were pretty light faire -- with Saving Pvt Ryan the heavier of two given that it was about war and loss and etc. Shakespeare in love made 289 million dollars world wide (100 million in the US alone). Does that sound like some snobbish arthouse flick? People were flocking to see that damn thing.

The reason why I'm harping on this point is that I think it speaks to your entire argument (or at least the way you phrased it):

I'm not saying that you're stupid, but it seems like you just picked an upset at the Oscars to try and prove your point about snobbery, when in fact the only point your proving is that you didn't do the research. Which leads me to believe that you didn't or haven't or refuse to do the research that it takes to understand the 'sweet science'.

Some of us enjoy both kinds of fighters and fights. Sometimes I want to watch a blood and guts war, and sometimes I want to watch something a little more clinical. The nice thing about boxing is that it's a sport with room for both.

I don't find them snobbish, I just think they're uneducated in the fact they believe that pure boxing is more difficult to do than to try KO your opponent. The first thing a boxer is trying to do is not get KO'd, the second is win the fight. So therefore, the hardest thing to do is to try and KO your opponent. A pure boxer makes his living off the aggression of their opponent, meaning, the more aggressive their opponent is, the more it actually helps them to win.

Contrary to popular belief, boxers don't choose their styles based off natural gifts. KO seekers don't seek KO's because they believe they could never have acquired the skills to be a pure boxer, they just know that the fastest way to fame and fortune is through KO's, so they choose the more difficult path. And pure boxers realize there will always be those that choose the quick way to fame and fortune to capitalize on.

It's not that if everyone could acquire the skills to be a Floyd or Rigo, they would, because a pure boxer making the money Floyd is, is ridiculously unlikely, he got great cards and played them just right to get where he's at because if you look throughout history, the KO's seekers have amassed far more money than pure boxers. So, to me, sweet science guys who talk as if pure boxers are some kind of genius's are just not very educated. They choose that safe style and simply cross their fingers they can fight popular fighters from whom to make their money from.

Great post with some interesting inside view. I think the TS has some point though some of the posters in here get absolutely obsessed with the slick styles. Also I know that we had this argument before but Lara should of stick a bit more and move a bit less in order to win and he should've knew it.
