Thats how Hamed got his freakish power though, he put all his body weight into the punch, which sometimes caused him to go off balance.
So Frank offered an almost retired, shot to ****, inactive Hamed a $1.000.000 to fight an up and coming Harrison ? Nothing to do with the sour grapes after Hamed and his brothers binned his services, or the fact that he knew Hamed wouldn't take the bait. Prime Hamed would of had Harrison out of there within three rounds. Frank also boasted about offering McCullough $1.000.000 to fight Hamed, yet nobody knew anything about it, even though it alledgedly took place in front of a crowd ?
Naz is a bit of an enigma skills-wise. To say he wasn't technically good isn't right, what he had was the athleticism and power to make the ingle style (which I don't really like) work for him. It's not orthodox, but there's some serious skill there. An interesting discussion to have is to ask how he would have turned out if he'd been spotted by Steward at the age of 6. Definitely would still have been world champion IMO.
i always picked Naz to win but not this one. i saw the upset coming. i knew Barrera wasn't going to come forward for all the money in the world. i said he'd counter Naz by making him come forward. some of my mates thought the drugs had finally ****ed me up. go back and see who was in Badillo's corner when he fought Naz in Sheffield way back in 97. it's Barrera's trainer. look at the tactics he had Badillo using. he made Naz come forward and looked to counter. it didn't work then because Naz was at his best and actually had a jab, which he used to perfection that night. by the time the Barrera fight came around, Naz's jab and ability to come forward were long gone. the tactics were perfect and worked a treat. remember Barrera constantly saying he was going to use pressure pressure pressure?? that's when i had it confirmed what his real tactics were going to be. it was a close fight though. Barrera was technically at his best, but Naz was at his worst. yet still it was competitive. had it been Naz when he was with Ingle, i'd have no hesitation in picking Naz by KO. but in 2001, it wasn't going to be his night.
actually, one of the main reasons for Naz turning to ****, was his hook up with Manny. he didn't know how to work with someone like Naz in any way shape or form. i mean, he tried to make him a conventional fighter?? that's the silliest **** i've ever heard in my life. Manny was a great trainer with certain styles. but horrible with others. he was a bad choice of trainer for Naz.
Great assessment. At the time some were saying Naz was the bigger man. When they actually got in the ring it was obvious the only things bigger on him were his mouth and his arse. Prior to that in his recent fights he'd been on the floor,so I put a fiver on Barrera points and won 20 quid. Wish Id kept the slip but didn't. Naz went through the usual predictions about what he was gonna do in the build up but as you suggest, bottled it in the dressing room. Moaned about the gloves and for the first time ever, didn't jump the rope. He was up against an ATG at his peak, not a slightly past it fighter this time. Looked happy to have gone the distance to me. As you say,a great level of boxer, one of our best but I think if he'd fought Marco another 9 times, the results would have been the same, maybe even a few knockouts.
And Ive got it on good authority that he DID train. I don't know him,but from what I saw of him his ego wouldn't let him admit the truth, beaten by a better man. When that man is Barrera, its no disgrace.
I agree with some of the points you made, but Hamed was technically rubbish. and because Hamed had basically zero fundamentals his style was always going to be exposed when he fought the top level technicians because he was far too clumsy. Exciting fighter, but overrated IMO.
It's not his style though - it's the Ingle style. A horrible, horrible style that always comes unstuck at the top level. Talk about missing the point...
So simba thinks Hamed ducked Harrison, god I thought you were mental but this raises the bar. Hamed would have murdered Harrison !!!!
First time i ve heard anyone describe naseem as far too clumsy. I think the initial point was ryan that you said he wasn't skilled. I think thats absolutely mental. You've went on to make some good points that i dont necessarly disagree with. But too say he was clumsy or not skilled or technically poor are wrong for me. Obviously it's just my opinion. But you cant say things like he had poor skill because barrerra beat him. You can still be skilled and lose to barrerra surely?? Actually think assasin makes a valid point about naz turning to ****...i think he's spot on. Wouldn't lay too much of the blame at stewards door tho...how would you train naseem after years in the ingle camp. Especially when your a world renowned trainer thats had huge success along the way with what you've always done. It was just a bad match between them. But to be honest i dont know many trainers that wouldn't have made the same mistake. Also dont agree that the ingle style is a horrible horrible style...i think on the whole it pretty much can be to watch. Junior and johnny nelson were like watching paint dry at times. Naseem was by far the best at making it an entertaining style and the rest had there moments. But after watching other british fighters take flush shots again and again at british level/euro level with their fundamental styles it's something trainers in britain should be having a look at. Not copying it as such because it does have limitations but maybe taking some of the things they done and disgard others. Also great question mcguirpa....it's almost too good that it's annoying lol. I say he wouldn't have been world champion. I just think the ingle style was made for him. But again anybody that disagrees with that and can back it up will probably shut me up. I m 50/50 on it tbh. I honestly dont think ingle gets the credit for his work over the years. People always pull out the it's a style that always comes unstuck at the top level. But look around you pretty much every style/fighter from britain came unstuck at the very top level. Obviously there is exceptions...but not that many of them. To have johnny nelson/ryan rhodes/junior witter/naseem hamed/Herol graham/kell brook plus others come out of any gym is saying something. Mainly being that the style is successful. Agree with all that ted. :good Sorry for the length of post guys :rofl....probably wont read lol. Honestly it started off as that first paragraph to ryan then thought i ll add a bit more...ended up about 6 paragraphs long and just random points thrown about all over the place...i get ****ing carried away when i get on a forum. :thumbsup
BBjc i could say loads about your post with which i agree however i must point out one thing... Indisputable Facts!
Hahaha it's so frustrating you write out about 9 paragraphs then he pops up with a couple of lines of his indisputables and thats you right back to the drawing board. Reckon Solarse is next to be dethroned by the indisputables. Yeah solarse has made a couple of great points are they indisputables tho....i think not!haha
