Soliman is top 10 in the Ring Magazine Rankings. Who else would you have GGG fight at 160 lbs that would be seen as a good win for GGG? Cotto Lineal champ Quillin WBO champ fights on Showtime. Outside of those Soliman is right up there as a good opponent.
golovkin has been more than patient waiting for Martinez to re-emerge, and it's not surprising he picked cotto but quillin and soliman is nothing more than picking up a belt - and it shouldn't be seen as anything more than that if a cotto fight turns sour, then golovkin will have to fall back into fighting whoever is fringe and has nothing to lose - which is geale now (who didn't want to fight him twice when he had a belt) and soliman EDIT " why do you think ring mag ratings are a positive?
So outside of Cotto for the Lineal title there is no good fights at 160? It isn't a strong division but beating top 10 contenders, and belt holders is going to better his resume. Ring Rankings are usually decent but Soliman is top 10 in all Middleweight Rankings.
that's what i'm saying. apart from cotto (which is the fight golovkin wants now that cotto has beaten Martinez), there's nothing at 160 sturm was a cancer on the sport who took the road of least resistance until he got beaten by b-graders, but both geale (now he doesn't have any cards to play) and soliman (who has nothing to lose) are willing to step up if golovkin gets to fight cotto, it will be real interesting to see if ward gets in his sights he wants the 160 recognition, which is fair enough, but there isn't much to stick around for
But you understand the question of that thread? What are the best options for Gennady Golovkin? Due to the fact that Cotto may dont stays at MW, may giving up the belt, may fighting Canelo first in Autum .. is it that bad of a choice to get a unification made with Soliman?? If Cotto stays at MW and says letst do it next, im full with it Cotto/GGG to be made by years end :thumbsup
agreed. i think cotto will want to keep the trinket he just won from Martinez because, after all, he's inherited the legit MW championship of the world ego says he will stay and defend it, and if common sense rules, then golovkin should be first in line to challenge if he beats geale (the other belts and champions don't mean much)
JDJ was never the same fighter after losing that war to Castro, three years prior to Hopkins. He then fought 3-4 journeyman, losing to the last one just before he fought Hopkins. Glenn Johnson became a great fighter later in his career, but at the time he fought Bernard, he had only experience with low level journeyman in his 32 fights. Almost the same for Allen, Echols, and Vanderpool. Allen had a win over Council for his lone meaningful victory and Vanderpool over Johnson (as many fighters had during those years over Johnson). My point is, at the time Hopkins started the MW tournament, his credentials were no where near what would be considered a HOF canidate. He honestly was only in slightly better position to where Golovkin is now. It took Bernard 6 years after winning the IBF to fight someone (Holms) who would be at the same level as Geale. Not to say one is better than the other, but strictly in terms of accomplishments, there's not much seperating the two at the same stages in their careers.
GGG is a very exciting fighter I like watching him in the ring no question great pontential the sky is the limit. PLEASE STOP COMPARING HIM TO LEGENDS LIKE BERNARD HOPKINS. EVEN AT 50 BHOP WOULD WHIP HIS ASS. JUST STOP IT.
