It seems the goal is for a Cotto-Alvarez fight next year so I don't think Cotto is going to fight anyone better than he has to so that fight doesn't get ruined.

Golovkin is simply too dangerous and would probably ruin a Cotto-Alvarez fight so I think thats out.

Chavez has trouble making 168 let alone 160, can't see that happening. Quillen is with Haymon and HBO isn't working with him so thats probably out.

I think it ends up being someone like Kirkland(if he doesn't face Alvarez). Bradley, which isn't a bad fight its just Bradley shouldn't be getting a shot at the middleweight title.

Or, one of the lesser known guys like Rubio, Macklin, Stevens, Korobov,Lee etc. Really hard to tell at the moment.

**** freakshow fight. Cotto needs to face one of the beltholders at MW, or at least the top contenders. Really hope that doesn't happen.

If he fights and beats GGG he probably goes ahead of mayweather in the atg list

    The hell with Trout!!!

Greedy Arum is cashing in on Cinco De Mayo with Cotto vs Opie!!!

Dec I think Kirklandd or Quillen.

I hope Cotto knowing he has only a few fights left would sign up for GGG this Dec. !!!

    Cotto will systematically dismantle GGG!!!

I'm just not sold on GGG's ATG fan status and his electronic punching effects!!!:nut

    Please NO Bradley!!!!!!!!!!

He needs to fight a top MW...preferably GGG!!!

Golovkin would love to knock Cotto out in his next fight, but Cotto will run like hell and hide from Golovkin. Roach will never allow Cotto to come near Golovkin..............but that's the fight HBO wants...............

    True .

Cotto is completely fearless . But he also knows his limits .

As much as he probably wants to fight Golovkin (deep down) Hes not going to let his pride get the best of him .

    Miguel aint fighting GGG .

While I think Cotto showed real improvement in winning the title...

I also think my late sister would have beaten Martinez that night.

I think Freddie, and all, will be happy with what are perceived as the easiest fights out there- Bradley (whom Freddie knows how to beat) or Quillen (perceived as a weak link).

(I agree with BOGART, Bradley shouldn't have a shot, but...)

Why not cash in on the title before risking it?

    Quillen is the better payoff.

Putting Cotto up against a healthy fighter will educate all of us a bit more as will the outcomes of upcoming fights.

My bet- our opinions on this all will be scrambled somewhat in upcoming months. Many of you posting on this site have an eye on the big picture (constantly evaluating many fights) and how key fighters like GGG, Pac, and others perform will influence everyone's thoughts.

If he was actually able to KO Rubio I would give him all the credit in the world. Rubio is not the slickest boxer but is skilled and a very tough customer. Respectable mandatory defense.
