I don't think Ward is a big star in US but it looks like Golovkin's popularity is smoke and mirrors.

No sponsors, seemingly low purses, less than 24 hours to his fight and google search comes with.. About 1,320,000 results, 44K followers in Twitter, every year a fight in a bar in Monaco for 900 people with no American television coverage etc etc.

ggg will beat the crap out of ward, easy work. ward is ducking, he knows ggg is the bigger draw, that's why ward is pricing himself out.

I think the time is perfect for GGG to go at Ward. Andre has been off for quite some time now and if he can catch Ward a little bit rusty. .....he could pull off the upset. If Andre is smart, he'll take a couple tune up fights to get his timing and knock off any rust from the extended layoff before pushing for this fight.

 

I agree, Ward fans dont realize how rusty he is. I hope GGG cherry picks him right now and jumps on him early. Ward fans wont know wtf hit them.

If Golovkin signs up for the fight, he should only agree to take that kind of ass whupping on a pay per view basis.
That way his 30% of the 70/30 split will bring him in some coin for taking a Ward style beating.

 

When will people learn already that such comments from fighters, their promoters or entire team is nothing but an advertisement to an upcoming fight?. Remember when Mayweather said "Pacquiao is next" before every fight?, remember when Arum said "Mayweather is next before every Pacquiao fight", remember when David Haye said "Wladimir is next" before every fight?, remember when Marquez said "Pacquiao is next" before both his fights with Bradley and Alvarado?, and the examples are endless.

This is nothing but advertisement. Sure, the fights the people want will eventually happen(Wladimir vs Haye as an example) but not as soon as people think/believe.

When they were talking about the fight a couple years ago I wouldn't hesitate agreeing with you......but 2014 is another inactive year for the Oakland native. His legal battles has stalled whatever momentum he had the last time he stepped through the ropes. Triple G on the other hand is in 5th gear building momentum. The fight is PPV worthy but it's not the right time for Andre to make the fight with this kid. Don't get me wrong. .....I'd buy it but if I were Ward......I'd take a step back and get some rounds in before he makes the fight with Gennady.
