Ali had a good chin ,sometimes it can be a poisoned chalice imo. Bit like the guy who can drink a bottle of whisky without falling over,he's still downed the whisky and his liver still has to deal with it.

He does look punchdrunk, but there's an outside chance that he's just wrecked on pills and alcohol.

An interesting thing. I think many know how grave the risks are and just how dangerous the sport is, but when faced with the possibility of one day becoming champion, it's a price many are willing to pay. If I believed I could one day hold the lineal championship, I would pursue even with my understanding of how dangerous it is.

One thing is for sure. Getting hit in the head on an ongoing basis never improved anyone's health.

Surprisingly he graduated from Bridgewater state and has Bachelors in political science.. I would definitely agree though, doesn't seem smart enough to have graduated from college. I think drugs fried his brain, on top of that he took quite a bit of damage in the ring.

I just watched bowes fights against golata. Those fights finished him badly. Before those fights there were talks about Tyson taking on bowe in the future and golata would serve as warm up. The punishment that bowe took in those two fights, my word. His poor work ethic cut short a really promising career.

With all due respect, i dont think Bruno even threw a single punch, he was deducted points for constant clinching. He had no heart whatsoever.

But Nigel Benn did mention in a documentary that Tysons entourage was making death threats to Benn, Bruno and co and even Benn wanted to get out of there.

he doesnt look or sound as bad as i thought he would before i clicked on the link.
if he wasn't so hoarse it wouldnt seem bad....he's articulate apart from his hoarse voice which is more hoarse than slurred.

Ali's brain damage is the kind that comes from being hit in the back of the head though, not the chin. You have a point though. He wouldn't have to deal with the blows to the back of the head if were getting sparked out.

I think it also ultimately depends on how often you get hit on the head

How hard your skull and jaw are must also be factors. Even though they say concussion is about your brain getting bounced around within your skull.

On what do you base this?:huhApart from Chuck Wepner, who hit him in the back of the head?

Regarding Ali, i was at a number of his sparring sessions. He did NOT wear headgear in those sparring sessions. Just think of how many rounds of sparring he did (without head gear), over the course of his many years of boxing. He was already showing signs of speech problems before he ended boxing. In some of his last fights, he took some serious head shots from the likes of Holmes and a few others.

There is a genetic component, which I'm pretty sure has been identified and written about in medical papers: people with whatever gene or gene combination are predisposed to suffer dementia -- particularly if they subject themselves to long-term brain trauma.

I don't care how much money or fame a person gets, nothing good comes from getting knocked in the head.
