Personal feelings aside, I feel like Carter could get away with murder here, and Ayala could be bringing a knife to a gun fight, making it hard to forcibly penetrate Carter's defenses, as he's wont to do.

Lol at the Prisonweight Championship of the World showdown.

Winner loses to Martel "Too Sweet" Godone in a mandatory defense at Alcatraz.

Carter was a good, but not great, fighter. He wasn't in the same league as Ayala. While he had power and a very good chin,he could be outboxed by slick fancy dans like Joey Archer.
Carter was tailor-made for guys like Tony. His greatest victory over Emile Griffith came because Griffith foolishly took Rocky Graziano's advice to go for an early KO.

Carter was innocent, the victim of racial profiling. Ayala was guilty.

On what do you base your opinion of Ayala's level of class? How do we know about his chin, his durability, his ability to carry a fight into later rounds?

Hurricane wasn't an ATG, but there's no reason to believe Ayala would have gone on to be more than a contender, either. He was fast-tracked and showed a lot of early promise, for sure, but I doubt he could have sustained it even if he wasn't a serial ******.

IMO Carter would TKO Ayala. Maybe very early.

Let's stay on track. I asked to keep personal feelings out of it.

Carter is very over rated. Tiger made the hurricane appear to be a mild breeze. Ayala's short career makes it difficult to evaluate him, but, IMO, Ayala KOs Carter.

Hurricane fought the better competition, and would be too much for the overrated, yet tough Ayala.

Ayala was far more talented and was hyped as a future great but never developed .. Carter was very tough and a serious puncher w a good chin and far more proven as a pro .. I'd favor Carter over the 20 year old Ayala but Tony was on a far greater path before he self destructed ..
