Nah, it would be seen by knowledgeable people as a step up. Geale was Ring #2 at 160 for a reason.

Your statement in previous post on how non American fighters all suck just kind of made me wonder.

It boils down to advertising. What is put in front of people, and what they are told. Coke spends the money they do advertising for a reason - it works. All the time I see on these forums " I dont know X, they must be bad. I know X, they must be good." Think of Lacy/JoeC

What it sounds like you're saying is you follow a narrow range of divisions and mainly only follow fighters who are well known in the US. S'Okay - we all have a focus of our interests, but if you'd never heard of guys like Macklin, Barker, Murray or Geale your lack in knowledge of the MW division is simply vast.

It sounds like you're saying 'I've not heard of these guys so they must be rubbish' rather than actually going to do a little research - ie Youtube, not just Boxrec.

I understand there's a dearth of US talent at MW with most natural US based MWs prefering to drain to 154 where the money is, but to assume that automatically makes them better is simply naive.

In answer to your question I don't see any of the above names stopping Geale with the possible exception of JCC Jr - due to his likely huge size advantage. Geale would box **** out of Kirkland (though you can never tell with Mandingo - if he's allowed get up a head of steam the guy seems damn near unstoppable), Lara would be close and competitive, but Geales workrate might just edge it though I think Lara has a slight edge in skill, Canelo, hard to say - Geales got a good engine in the later rounds which could be enough. Cotto - meh, I'll reserve judgement til I've seen him in with a MW who isn't on his last legs but I can see a very entertaining fight either way.

He'd beat Kirkland, Qullin, go the distance with the others.

Or maybe they picked Geale cos he's arguably the most proven MW in the world - more so, possibly, than GGG himself?

They didn't seem to have any problem with picking Stevens who could make a fair case for being the biggest puncher in the division.

And really - who even mentioned FMJ?

Seems pretty clear that you don't follow 160 lbs when the fighters you list as being better don't fight at that division Lara, Canelo, Chavez,Kirkland etc don't fight at middleweight.

he's lame as fighter you see how he fights. the names you mentioned you are legit fighters. even kirkland is decent and hes a one tricky pony. dont put to much into ggg ko's unless he its, jacobs, qullin, canelo, chavez jr. its not like he's fighting a class fighter and make them look bad he's still actually fighting c and d fighters. lets just call it like it is.

Admitting you haven't heard of a fighter that has held two legitimate belts in the MW division makes pretty much any of the arguments that you are trying to make totally invalid.

for me, the jury's out until GGG beats one of those guys you mentioned. I'm just not convinced with guys like Geale, Adama and Macklin...to me, those guys may be the best the MW division has to offer these days, but it's still a pretty weak crop. So weak, in fact, that if Cotto, for example were to announce he would fight, say adama, next, the boxing world would laugh cotto out of town. but GGG can dominate guys like that and be called the next thing to SRR. But to me, he hasn't DONE anything! He hasn't beaten ONE live, credible world-class guy. To me, adama and macklin are one level above clubfighters...Sorry, not buying the GGG hype yet. For all we know, he might be tne next panchito bojado and lose to the first real world class talent he faces.

lol...not really. These days it seems a belt isn't worth much... there's A LOT of guys who own a belt that I have never heard of. And the thing is, I follow boxing pretty closely.

But, off-topic for a minute, I want to say one thing about european and australian fighters. To me, those guys are the NOT the cream of the crop. Pretty much anytime I see a european or aussie fighter, I assume he's gonna suck ...and he usually does. There's a few exceptions here and there, but to me those guys are really the weakest. Now, other countries and regions do produce great fighters...for example, fighters from cuba are generally good to great. fighters from mexico run the gamut from sucky to pretty good. same with the phiippines and asians from say, japan or korea. some decent fighters come out of various countries in africa... european fighters seem to get a lot more opportunities to be on tv and get high-profile fights...but, to me, they're kinda hard on the eyes. I guess it's the euro/aussie style of fighting that i just find to be kinda ugly and boring to watch.

First statement shows incredible bias, and the Tsyzu was born and raised in Russia.

    :deal :conf

First and second sentences don't compute. So contradictory. Four belts in each division, that's not a **** ton of people to "know of".

Based on what I saw last night,
    He outpoint Cotto
    Canelo outpoints him
Quillen may get a late stoppage
Kirkland he may last 4 or 5 rounds with
Lara could drop him with a counter but probably wins on points.

You know, after reading your post and a few others on here who seem to either deliberately misquote me/ put words in my mouth, I have to say, this site is full of some of the stupidest people I have ever come across. I will still continue to post here, because I'm a fight fan, but I realize now that guys on this forum are not to be taken seriously.

    My take is:

krkland ko's geale in three rounds.
Canelo ko's geale in 3 rounds, 4 tops.
    Quillen Ko's geale in 3, 4 rounds
    Lara ko's geale in 6, 7 rounds
cotto ko's geale in 3 rounds.

geale is garbage. his record proves it and his performance on saturday night proves it even more. I suspect he was highly ranked because the division lacks depth...and because boxing organizations, which are mostly based in the US, don't want to be seen as shutting out foreigners from the rankings.
