If you were to create a fighter whose sole purpose in life was to defeat a 160 lb Roy Jones Jr, you couldn't come up with a better creation than Golovkin. Roy's a much better H2H fighter than he'd look in this matchup. That's how bad this is stylistically for him.

You're not going to outspeed Roy. Using timing, footwork, and angles to cut the ring off are essential. So is one-shot power and a chin. You also need a command of range (a great jab) and either a pressure component to your game, or elite counterpunching.

In other words, you need Gennady Golovkin. He's the first middleweight since Roy that Id make the favorite to beat him.

Roy was absolutely amazing in his prime, Roy to win by KO or 12 round clowning.

Roy boxes very catious, he would know GGG has wrecking power.

GGG, has his moments with Roy up against the ropes, but Roy also is successful countering, possibly even flooring GGG..

I think Roy wins a 9-3 type of decision.

Those saying Roy wins by KO, need to realize Roy would not have taken any unneccessary chances, and would have been content to outbox GGG. Is it possible Roy catches him? well yeah, there is always that factor with Roy, but I think it would be highly unlikely, as Roy would be catious.

    Toney wasnt a notable puncher?

I suppsoe GGG can hit harder than Ruiz?

Ah yes, not only can you travel into the past, but you can also read minds.

Why are you wasting your time here?

Listen, when GGG is a mutiple weight world champion, maybe goingn up and picking up and picking up a HW belt, and generally considered an ATG, we can pick up this conversation again.

    Wrong again..

Roy beat better fighters at MW then Golovkin has so far, and that is not even debatable...

How you think the H2H fight would have gone is one thing, but don't allow your hating bull**** to twist facts.

And If Roy's belt was a meaningless trinket, then what is Golovkin's? Last I checked the lineal champ is Cotto.:deal

Triple Duck is WAY too SLOW, Genius. Geale had him figured out by midway point of the first round and was landing CLEAN right hands on Triple Duck. Roy would have had a field day coming in between those WIDE looping punches Triple Duck likes to throw. Someone had better tell him that straight punches find the mark before looping ones do before he ends up on his ass counting the lights...

So, Triple Duck is punching harder than heavyweights?

    Is that your argument?

I wasn't a boxing fan back then but weren't Michalczewski and Jones as bad as each other in that neither would travel to fight each other?

This should be a candidate for the dumbest post of the century award. After losing to Roy, Hopkins would go on to win a 160lb belt and defend it *20* times.

Take your head out of your ass...

Yes. You basically had 2 stay at home fighters with huge egos... And this is coming from a Jones fan.
But, after talks finally broke down, look what Roy went on to do, and look what DM went on to do..

I have always said, that hurt DM more than It did Roy. Who went on to make 17 million and win a HW belt.

RJJ has one of the worst jaws in boxing history. GGG would knock him out till round 2 or 3.
