My point ,[which I see I will have to explain ,]was that Stevenson was a great amateur but he was not unbeatable. To seriously throw him in the deep end with the world champion is silly.

Load of Rubbish, both in their primes Stevenson was the more experienced fighting man.

Well, it would be ignorant to pretend that Tyson was unbeatable as well. And to say that a 22 years old Tyson would easily beat Stevenson (even Savon) is far from unquestionable.

We know Tyson was not unbeatable but as a pro he never lost to a tyro pro .
You give an amatuer boxer who has never fought as a pro a viable chance against the world champion?

Tyson KO1 Tillman. Tyson should have had two wins over him as an amateur as well... I hate the way amateur boxing is scored.

Yes even at the moment I'd give erislandy Savon and usyk when he was amatuer at least a 50/50 chance of beating every heavyweight not named klitschko and there only cruiser weights

teofilo was not an average classic amateur, the cuban guys at that time could not fight at professionals so they had tons of amateur fights, they got great experience and .teofilo was offered to fight with frazier for the title in his first professional fight if he did his debut, and teofilo said that he was sure about to beat frazier but he would respect the ideal of his country.
enmanuel stewart " teofilo was the most balanced fighter that i ever seen"
angelo dundee " everybody wanted teofilo, i think that i never wanted him because i had ali, if not i would have wanted him"
he did beat a future PROFESSIONAL champ in john tate by stoppage(incredible because stevenson looked even bigger than tate), he did beat bobick(bobick did beat larry holmes), tyrell biggs. DEFINITELY TEOFILO HAD THE PEDIGREE TO HAVE A GOOD CHANCE VS TYSON

I think Teo had a much better chance against Foreman, who still fought somewhat amateurish in the pros.

I just found it ridiculous that Ali is considered a "horrible match-up" for Tyson and yet Stevenson and Savon are supposed to be easy fights.

Another interesting thing is that many people here are trying to downgrade the amateur/Olympic style boxing for some reason, which makes me wonder if they either know anything about what they're talking about, or there is another reason behind that.

Shumenov was a "professional world champion" until recently, I'd love to hear your opinion about Shumenov vs. La Cruz in a 6 rounder.

I didn't claim that Stevenson or Savon would definitely beat Tyson, especially Stevenson who was more vulnerable in some aspects. As for Savon, I'm not sure, but at his peak he might be just too smart for 22 years old Tyson, world champion or not.
It's also interesting how David Tua, who is considered an iron chinned warrior who was never stopped even in late age, plus survived wars without back off against savage punchers such as Ike, found himself knocked out in 15 seconds while trying to be aggressive against Savon.

It was an 18 yr old, sub 200lb Tua however.
David Izon beat Tua the following year too, didnt fare so well in the pros
