Golovkin's defence is an issue though. He is far too easy to hit. At middleweight that may not be a problem as nobody there seems to have the kind of power to dent his chin but if Golovkin does start moving up it could be his undoing.

While the TKO of Geale was impressive the way he was hit so cleanly before dropping Geale has me concerned.

 

I think it's the one area of his game that does need work. Even if he has an iron chin, he does not want to be taking shots that he doesn't need to take. The right punch, at the right time, can lay out almost anyone.

I don't think it helps matters that he is being ballyhoo'd by HBO and others as being this tremendous action fighter who scores knockouts all the time. I thought that he looked a tad overanxious to get the KO against Geale at times, reaching now and then with shots and leaving himself a bit vulnerable to counters.

He is in capable hands though and he has good technique, so he can likely sharpen up defensively. But generally, fighters that are not hard to hit mostly never really improve that much defensively. Old habits are hard to break and a fighter's style is after all, his style.
I guess we'll see if it comes back to haunt him, or if he can improve in this area.

I don't think ggg is stupid enough to get hit cleanly by someone he knows can punch. At the moment no one can faze him, he sees all the punches it's not an issue. Margarito took about 300 flush punches from Shane and pacquiao and only succumbed to one of those guys. Some fighters really do have granite chins.
