It looks like Cotto-Golovkin is a no go

    Not that this is a surprise, but Arum basically shot down the idea of this fight. Here's what he had to say;

    "Certainly, it's up to Miguel who he wants to fight but I think the Canelo [Alvarez] fight is a much more attractive fight,..Even though I love Golovkin and [K2 Promotions managing director] Tom Loeffler -- and nobody can say that Golovkin isn't a great fighter -- it's risk-reward in boxing. We don't know about Golovkin's ability on pay-per-view."

    Ironically, this is pretty much the reason Loeffler gave for not wanting to pursue a fight with Ward. Arum gave some good news though as he stated that Cotto's next fight will not be on PPV. Of course, he couldn't help but take a little dig at Mayweather in the process;

    "We have to realize that pay-per-view, no matter if it's boxing, MMA or wrestling, the numbers are way down. People aren't buying the pay-per-view like they used to buy. You can see it in Cotto-Martinez, in Mayweather's dismal numbers and in Pacquiao's less-than-glorious numbers for the Bradley fight in April."

    I wonder who Cotto is fighting next since it's not on Pay Per View.

    On Free HBO... then yeah I would watch that in a heart beat. Free, not on PPV.

    Cotto vs. Bradley on regular HBO is definitely a good scrap. However, it is a bit bogus that Bradley, who hasn't been that impressive at WW and is coming off a loss, can get a crack at the MW title. It's a business though, so that's how it goes.

    I thought that part of Oscar's desire to work with Arum was because, looking down the road, he was angling for an eventual Cotto fight with Canelo. (No Anglerfish pun intended.) That's the matchup I've always expected for Miguel after he beat Sergio.

    They are looking to make a Cotto/Canelo fight next May or June. It's not definite as there are still some seemingly big issues that need to be worked out, but that's the preliminary plan.

    Hell yeah its a no go because Cotto would beat GGG's hyped ass. GGG has not beat anyone yet.

    I think Cotto is only in the sport to be fighting the top dollar fights only. He speaks over and over again about his health and screw everything else, including fans. He wont over sacrifice himself for legacy if it doesnt make much money. So I think he would go for Canelo and make as much money as possible. Canelo or wait for Mayweather rematch.

    I'm a fan of both men and Cotto has never ducked anyone, but this is one fight he needs to duck for sure.

    His escape route should be:

    - Fight Canelo

    - If he loses retire (or fight a no hoper if he wants to go out on a win)
    - If he wins, try and get one last payday by getting a rematch with Mayweather or Pacquiao for the middleweight crown, then retire.

    They should put Cotto and Canelo on the same card against relatively risk free opponents to build toward their showdown on PPV

    Good. Good for both, honestly. This would have been terrible for Cotto (physically) and for Golovkin (he already gets enough grief for his opposition)

    He needs to vacate his belt if he doesn't want this fight then, he has the lineal title so he should be facing the best in the division....
