WBC to allow Mayweather to defend both WW and JMW titles against Maidana

    I must say that I'm disappointed by this decision. There are fighters out there who could really benefit from winning a major title. The WBC though has no problem breaking their rules and showing preferential treatment. Since Mayweather is so intent on keeping both titles, I hope he at least goes up to JMW to defend his JMW titles in his next fight. He can't be allowed to continue defending JMW titles against WWs, at the WW limit.

    It is bull. Tim Bradley got stripped like a week after he won the title because he hadn't agreed to fight Devon...lol.

    Is there anyone NOT crooked in boxing?

    Technically Light Middleweight has a weight limit of 154. 147 is still under 154 pounds, so I can see how it's legal. I think it's just gimmicky.

    It's not legal. It's not legal because WBC rules mandate that you can't hold WBC titles in different weight classes simultaneously.

    I think it would be cool if he moved up to 160 next year and rematched the winner of Cotto/Canelo and won the Middleweight title. He would be the first boxer since Henry Armstrong to hold titles in three divisions simultaneously.

    So if Maidana were to somehow win he'd be the WBC WW and JMW champ even though he's had zero fights at JMW? Wow, that's ****ing stupid. What's next, Ward vs Golovkin at a catchweight of 165lbs for the LHW championship?

    The WBC don't give a **** about rules. They want those sanctioning fees.

    So since Super Middleweight belts are on the line, that means Floyd can push for 10 ounce gloves?

    Actually, if it's a JMW bout, 10 oz. gloves will have to be used. Although I'm sure the NSAC will make an exception in this case.

    I know what you meant. I was just pointing out that 10 oz. gloves are the standard for JMW and above. So Mayweather wouldn't have to push for 10 oz. gloves, that would be the default size used. More than likely though, they'll push for 8 oz. gloves.

    Not a fan of this. It's legal, but realistically only the 147 belt should be on the line.
