In the second round when he gets "knocked out" Hide clearly takes a dive. The punch that made his body go ridged doesn't even touch his chin, only barely grazes his shoulder. Hide was an odd character for sure so I wouldn't put it past him to quit after tasting Vitali's power but I always wondered if he got paid off to take a dive.

15:38 is a good view of the phantom punch.

Believe you me that was no dive, it was a legitimate shot and Hide was gone.

No dive.... Hide was always chinny, and a hard left jab from a guy like Vitali is more than enough to get the job done.

For a much better angle, watch from 15:04 to 15:11.

If you still can't see the punch, make an appointment with your eye-doctor.

No phantom punch or ducking hear.
One of the previous shots landed right behind his ear and you could see his balance was gone. The final punch wasn't that hard, but I think even a Vitali sneeze would have blown Hide down at that moment.

i remember watching young herbie hide on an old satelitte tv channel called 'screensport' which was actually superb for boxing...had all the early fights of the likes of hide and eubank live....barry mcguigan and jim mcdonnell were commentators, and mcguigan was superb, it was before he became what i think was a yes man pundit. anyway, i digress..
i was convinced in those early fights that hide was the second coming of ali, christ he looked something else then....shows its all about levels....i had half the lads in the bakery i was working in at the time putting money on him to beat bowe, he started well in fairness....anyway...all history now.....hide's been in prison since end of last year.

    Whats he in prison for?

I remember when Riddick Bowe beat Hide to a pulp, loved that fight, hated Hide..

As far as the Klitchko fight goes, Hide was way too small and had no chance, Hide could have taken a baseball bat into the ring and still got his ass kicked...

This ko was pathetic.Hide is/was one of the lamest fighter ever.
    He's genetical skinny, glass-chinned .He is/was Haye's weaker version.
Too bad : Hide was very well-managed.

He has been in prison for drugs dealing I thought. It had something to do with drugs anyway. He was one of my favourite HW wrestlers from the 90's, but he got wasted. Thought he was also bankrupt in the zeroes and made a little but not very successful comeback a few years ago.

It was a temple shot, not a chin shot. The big hitters don't have to land on the sweet spot. Vitali had real real good extension on that punch. And he'd hurt Herbie in the first round.

But those punches from Vitali come from odd angles. And from way on the outside from those long arms. His punching circumference was always a thing opponents underestimated. They'd think they were out of range & for most fighters they were. Not Vitali.

At any rate, I loved the fight. Guaranteed ko. 2 gunslingers. People forget Vitali was a 2-1 underdog going into the fight in Herbie's backyard. And Vitali went in there and destroyed him and I think Herbie was damaged goods therafter.

    Hide threw the towel in.

He pretended to spasm up from a punch that didn't even connect.

For the first (and like only) time I agree with you. :good

He felt Vitali's power early on and decided to take the expedient way out of the fight.
