Why can't any present greats beat any of the past greats?

do a side by side comparison of a past fight(pre 80s) and a modern fight(post 80s) the modern fighters look so much more balanced and less sloppy. i have watched countless hours of the classic fighters. i've watched jack johnson, jack dempsey, joe gans, benny leonard etc. they dont compare at all that's my honest opinion

 

Boxing as we know it started in Europe. Specifically, England. atsch

 

Boxing has evolved in some respects yeah, and not evolved at all in other respects.

Heart, toughness, temperament, will to win, desire, mental strength...this doesn't evolve.
It's simple really...taken to it's logical conclusion, boxing right now, anno 2014, would boast the finest collection of boxers the world has ever seen. They would all be right here, right now. That is, assuming that the sport constantly evolves and that the athletes get better and better every decade.
Do you think that this is the case?

If so, where is the superior version today of Roberto Duran? Sugar Ray Robinson? Thomas Hearns? Alexis Arguello? Julio Cesar Chavez? Salvador Sanchez? Wilfredo Gomez? Pernell Whitaker? Roy Jones? Etc. etc.

When you find them, wake me up.

There was a deeper pool of talent in era's like the 20's. More boxers that sparred and fought more = better.
I've read of trainers and boxers who split era's have said fighters like Benny Leonard and Freddy Welsh were better than Duran. ****ing Duran :shock: So no way has boxing evolved for the better. The quality now is sparse as ****. How can you not see this atsch

 

Because YDKSAB. The best fought the best more often back then, newspaper decisions or another words the "media" would decide the winner of a fight. These older gen fighters wouldn't brag about where they came from or what hood they represent, they "showed" you with their fists. Many went thru wars, I doubt they'd be intimidated at all by today's fighters. Hopkins, Foreman, Marquez, are the last of a dying breed. Just watch Hagler-Hearns, The Midget vs The Freak. Hagler at 5'9" is the last of the old school middleweights while Hearns at 6'2" the size of most 160-175lbers today, the prototype of the modern middleweight. Old vs the new. Whenever you're in doubt about the greatness of the older gen fighters, watch Hagler-Hearns, then turn your stove on high and sit on it while throwing salt in your eyes as punishment for even questioning their greatness.

Because ones legend grows to epic heights the longer they've been retired.
It's funny how people think the fighters from the 20/3040/50/60's could compete with today's fighters.

Laughable, have any of you truly reviewed any fight action. It's laughable, of course there are select few from each era that could hang with the correct training but they are very few all together

 

Because the calibre has been deteriorating!!!!

 

What's laughable is today's era
lack of skill ,poorly conditioned guys and the inactivity ..Based on that I'm confident that guys from those eras could contend today ..Bare in mind anything past the 40's .
