You know guys, you don't have to start derailing a Barrera thread with Morales talk just because they fought a few times. You can maybe let the former have something to himself without being all "hey Morales needs one too!". A bit disrespectful, maybe? ;)

The entire point here was to look at Barrera with a broader focus than just his main rivalries which have been done to death.

    Yeah, his combinations were supreme.

Marquez was maybe sharper with single counter-punches but for improbably lengthy volleys of hard textbook shots thrown with bad intentions and technically correct, and put together in creative ways often intuitively, on the fly - give me Barrera all day long.

Honestly, that's one of the things I love about the guy. In the Toledo fight he already had a warning even before the fight started. I'd love to see a highlight video of Barrera just being an *******. Of course, the apotheosis of the video would be the famous Hamed headlock into the ringpost.

He was a fierce competitor who definitely walked the line but IMO was never dirty enough that it eclipsed his ability to become the main talking-point.

He is no Luis Alberto Lazarte, for instance, an incredibly dirty little fighter who relied solely on cheating and home-cooking to ever become relevant. Barrera at least had the skills and heart to never actually need to 'liven things up' - his blood just got hot and it sort of happened. :yep Somehow you can't really stay mad at him for it. Must be that baby face.

All things considered, with only having the four rounds of high-level experience against Bones heading into his first truly major event on the big stage, Toledo acquitted himself very well in the 1st and maintained his composure professionally even when the situation began to worsen. A lot of guys would've crumbled after being knocked down that viciously once. He can't really be faulted for falling victim to the beast that was 122lb MAB.

MAB was something else man. I always got a trip out of him, educated, well schooled guy from a good family, going berserker with such a fury seldom seen. I mean, he was a trainer's dream a fighter you didn't need to remind to let his hands go. A crushing livershot reminiscent of Chavez one moment, the next he's peppering you with a rapid fire 5-6 punch head snapping combination. Whether it was Jones, Morales, Pacquiao, etc he never showed any fear in rematches. His fight with McKinney, OMG, oo wee, thats another gem if you want to make someone a MAB fan.
