As hard as it will be for Gavin he has to put that down as a learning experience and make sure he improves in all area's and comes back a better fighter. I think he can come again, maybe the hype will settle down and so will he.
Bundu is a good fighter and a Top 15 Welterweight. I'd also say he's better then any one Kell Brook has fought and beaten including Senchenko and Jones. Fight was close and the KD really did change the fight as before it happened Frankie was looking great winning the first 5 on my scorecard but then i had him losing the next 5 rds after the KD. I would go straight after the Re-match with Bundu as it's definately a winnable fight for hm but LWW could well be a better weight for him to become a World Champion especially as 140lbs is looking a bit open once Danny Garcia moves up and vacates two of the belts and the other two belts with beatable champions in Lamont Peterson and Chris Algieri.
Straight to the re-match for me. Don't see the point in 6 rounder for him. Might be an idea for other fighters but Frankie freely admits he struggles to get motivated for tick over fights. He knows everything would be on the line in a re-match.
He needs to move down to LWW for me, there is nothing for him at WW. The top level fighters are all too big and powerful for him, especially with his lack of power. Someone like Porter would walk through him like he did Paulie, as would a big WW like Kell Maybe a domestic fight with Burns down the line? He needs to shift those 7 pounds (shouldnt be that hard looking at him) and really take a look in the mirror and decide what he wants. He has the ability to go a long way at LWW, but he needs the dedication which he hasnt so far shown
I think he needs to put on some bulk to be honest rather than losing more weight. I don't think going down to LWW will change anything; probably be worse inasmuch as he's not carrying much in the way of lean mass as it is. But I do think people are being maybe overly critical? I think Bundu is above European level to be honest, maybe not world proper but at least fringe - I think he would better Malignaggi, for example. Very close fight & I though and that the KD was the key - I don't think Bundo would have won if that KD had never happened. Completely sucked the life out of Gavin for the following 3-4 rounds. Needs an immediate rematch ASAP, assuming he's mentally fit and proper; it's a spanner in the works but it can be rectified and I'd still fancy Gavin to win the rematch.
"I think he needs to put on some bulk to be honest rather than losing more weight. I don't think going down to LWW will change anything; probably be worse inasmuch as he's not carrying much in the way of lean mass as it is." I just cannot see how he can trouble top level WW's with his power. He clearly has the frame and body to move down to LWW, which is a less stacked division and his skills could see him go a long way. If he stays at WW, he needs to put some serious gym time in to find more strength and power, but at 29 is it too late? "But I do think people are being maybe overly critical? I think Bundu is above European level to be honest" I agree, but earlier this week people were talking of putting Frankie in with Manny P! Last night showed that Frankie doesnt have what it takes to be world class for me, he is a top European fighter due to his natural ability but nothing more.
True. Gavin should dabble with the thought of going to the states and getting some top class sparring and training. He'd be at home with Floyd Snr due to how both love the defensive aspect of the game. Possibly. Time will tell.
He is not better than what Brook ha fought, he is a man who is a European class fighter and is a few months short of his 40th birthday. If that was not old enough in boxing it certainly is in the lighter classes. Also Brook destroyed his opponents, is a different league to Frankie
A Frankie Gavin with power in his fists would be Top 5 welterweight in the world. However his lack of power mean his opponents can walk him down disregarding his punches as weak at the highest level. Unfortunately he'll never win a World title. However he can still make a good living fighting at the top World level
No chance, he's already pumped out 2 kids. Maccarinelli had the same problem. He was a guy who really could have improved and become a top top light heavy if he had moved to the US and dedicated himself. Im talking about starting his career at 175 rather than being blubbery at 190+. He had some serious potential but pumped out several kids with his girlfriend and was stuck training in sheds in wales, getting sparked unconscious when he stepped up.
