Hopkins is beyond any claims that he is the best ever

Yeah, he's amazing. When you're young you can get away with certain things, but as an old fighter competing in a young man's sport, you have to walk a very disciplined path.
As you say, his drive is almost beyond comprehension.

I'm not even a fan really, but the huge respect this man deserves is beyond question.
Whether he wins or loses against Kovalev doesn't really matter for me. Just having the guts to take it at his age is enough.

 

Na, you missed my point to try and defend Pac. My point was that Hopkins fights young lions. He stepped in the ring twice with Dawson, and Pascal. You don't see Pac stepping in with Keith Thurman. You didn't see Mayweather stepping in with Paul Williams. Hopkins doesn't really care. Guys like Mayweather and Pac don't have those type of testiculos.

 

I agree with everything except if going by age, Foreman would be GOAT HW. Foreman never dominated the heavyweight division in his late thirties the way Wlad Klitschko does now. He won and lost fights in his later career. Wlad at age 38 is at the absolute pinnacle of heavyweight domination and shows no sign of slowing down. He is pushing 40 and routinely thrashes much younger contenders in a way no other heavyweight in history has done. He'll, I'm not sure he has reached his peak, judging by the Leapei blowout.

 

Actually Hopkins started at LHW where he received his first loss, then moved to middle weight .

So many things wrong with this post.

Early in his career Hopkins fought everybody, mandatories and such because thats all they had, just as Pac and Floyd fought all comers, up and comers to get up early in their career.

Now when Bhop fights Dawson, he is fighting the biggest money fight out there for him. How is that different from Pac fighting Cotto? Except Cotto is better p4p and a HOF and brings in more money? Why would Pac fight Thurman? He's at the twilight of his career and can make bigger money fighting bigger fights, for bigger legacy points for bigger money. Bradley for example is a World champ, p4p fighter who brought more to the table than Thurman. So he wasn't a young hungry lion? Rios wasn't hungry? He was set to face Provodnikov considered the most dangerous guy at 140 prior to his loss, he wasn't a hungry lion? Algerie isn't a world champ and hungry lion? Clottey wasn't a top fighter and hungry lion?

lol. Thurman is unproven and brings nothing to the table, why should he get a shot at Pac before everyone else? And no we didn't see Pac step in with Thurman, so big ups to BHop stepping in with Pascal twice....yet we saw Pac step in with JMM 4 times, MAB 2 times, Morales 3 times, Bradley 2 times. Yep, strong argument there.

I'm from Philly and I never liked Hopkins but what he is doing is so sick it is ridiculous. With all the ducking going on nowadays to see this guy at 50 fighting this stone cold killer, and going our of his way to do it, just blows my mind. Not like he needs the money, he just thrives on the competition. Unlike some of his contemporires he wants to find out who is best and is willing to take on the best to prove it.
