What is it exactly that Emanuel Steward said about Lennox Lewis? I've never heard Lewis described as scary.

There was an interview where Stuard described a pist off Lewis as a ''scary presence'' I can only find this interview bellow though. I'll just paste the relevant part of the interview.

    Lewis vs. Mike Tyson:

What people don’t realize about Lennox also, Lennox might appear to be this gentlemanly guy and this mother’s boy, but he was one of the toughest guys that I have ever dealt with. When we had the fight with Mike and they had the first skirmish or whatever you want to call it, when they had the press conference in New York—what people didn’t realize is, when they were giving all the praises to Mike and they started giving their praises to Lennox, Mike snapped! He charged across the stage at Lennox! But as soon as he got in range, Lennox was the one that cracked Mike! He hit Mike! He didn’t back away, and run, and all that stuff. Lennox was never afraid of Mike Tyson. In fact on another occasion when we were out, personally I won’t go into that, but Lennox intimidated Mike.

Lennox even as a teenager back in Kitchener, Courtney Shand and the guys tell me whenever they had some kind of a street fight, they’d always go home and get Lennox to come, and Lennox came in and whooped them all. Lennox was always a rough guy.

When we were in the ring for the Mike Tyson fight and everybody had these yellow and black whatever things that were supposed to be separating us, because Mike was an animal and Mike was going to do this and that. Lennox was right there all the time just waiting, and we were actually worried about Lennox wanting to run across and jump on Mike!

So in the first round of the fight Lennox’s orders were to go out, stand toe-to-toe with him, and let him realize that you’re a big man—and that’s what he did. We didn’t care about winning or losing the first round. But in the first round when he came out and battled with Mike, that set the tone of the fight. From that point on we just settled down and beat him with a systematic jab, and he really wanted to torture Mike in the worst way. He could have knocked him out earlier, but he wanted to do just what he did—bust him up, beat him up, and when he finally knocked him out he was very happy seeing Mike on the floor with blood coming out of his nostrils, and his eyes bleeding, and he was totally just a beaten man. Lennox had a sadistic side in him that very few people realized.

Wow!! There goes the myth from the fanboys that it took Lennox eight rounds to get him out of there, Lewis could have knocked him out much earlier.

    why didn't he then?

Lennox Lewis 'i had hurt my hand'
Manny Steward 'get this mother****er out of here'

sounds to me like someone was scared/reluctant.

Lewis and his bull**** story about injuring his hand:patsch

No it sounds to me as though Lewis wanted to punish Tyson, the man was playing with him like a cat does a mouse.

You've got to give it to Tyson for admitting he'd never be able to beat Lewis, like he said Lewis was too big and skilful for him, he hurt Tyson from the get go and Mike has gallant as he was, never recovered.

Golota has always struck me as someone that you don't want to mess with. He had an almost psychotic look in his eyes.
Stanley Ketchel...as mean as a junk yard dog. Definitely not a guy you'd want to mess with.
Marciano...nice guy generally, but you didn't want to owe the Rock money, that's for sure.

    "As far as it took"

You see, that is the line for me. I am never prepared to take it as far as it took. In my heart of hearts, I want it to be over as soon as it gets started even though I love a good fight, once it on. But...when I have looked into another guys eyes and seen that he is ready for all of it, no matter what...I knew that I just messed even if I was in the right to start up with this person and this could get very real for me. Thank God I do not run into these types like I used to as a kid.

If you are that guy with no boundaries, believe me, you could be a 110 pound nothing and still be intimidating. Men know when they are walking among a sober lunatic. If they are smart they give him room to breathe unless they are ready for the kind of action that does not stop.

I was watching that wonder what Lennox was doing...another Tua perhaps. Steward screamed at him...and I was like, whoa! And I was also like yeah! What is Lennox waiting on?

Honestly...I did not see Lennox as a person scared of Mike. When he walked in he looked like a guy who was ready to beat the drap out of Mike. He jabbing Mike for the fun of it and finished him when he was ready. He did what he wanted in that ring and Mike was getting tortured.

Lennox could have.ended.that 2002 fight anytime he wanted too, he admitted in a 2005 interview that he wanted to tortue Mike in front of the whole wide.World, for.that BS, Mike pulled at the NY press.conference....
Mike looked.like a little short pee wee next to Lennox, if anyone was intimidating between the 2 it was easily Lewis, who was much more physically and mentally superior...

I must be honest and admit that I've always thought that Lewis could have ended that fight earlier.
From about the 4th round on, I thought Tyson was ready for the taking. He was taking a pasting and I wasn't sure why Lennox wasn't going for the kill. (At the time.)

Lewis had a mean streak in him, like Steward said Lennox was very rough, that's why I'd have always fancied him over Bowe, IMO he wouldn't have tried to box Riddick, he'd have gone straight for the kill.
